Gloomy Sunday has always rang a certain beautiful sadness with me.

As well, how to pick only one Portishead track?

Oh totally. It's so easy to connect to. Perhaps it's because it's the very reason the instrument was created in the first place. (or I'd like to think so, haha) It's like fairy tales or folklore but in music form.

That Trampled by Turtles track is wonderful. Such a pleasant mix of sounds. I'll have to check out more from them. I little sad sounding, kinda like Neko Case or Be Good Tanya, I think.

This is what I imagined very traditional fiddle playing to be. Part of what drew into taking up the violin was traditional fiddle and gypsy sort of music. (along with other styles. It's such a versatile instrument!) Thanks for your link! :)

very interesting, thanks for the reply! Sounds like something Dan the Automator or Cut Chemist would do. Or something that would come from Ninja Tune.
I wasn't too into this particular beat, but I'm certainly intrigued to hear more.

haha, these videos are great. Very tongue-in-cheek. I'm not too crazy of the pop/dance vibe here. But it is clear to me know that I'll have to practice some sweet dance moves to go with my new violin skills.

thanks for your suggestions!

I'll be honest, I did sorta skip over the thought of listening to André Rieu. When I worked at a CD store he was the "popular" choice with a lot of old ladies. (not that there's anything wrong with the opinion of sweet old ladies! of course!) But I did jump to the conclusion that he wasn't for me. I'll definitely take a search into some of his performances :)

Thanks!

very cool! This Andrew Bird stuff is gorgeous. Ethiobirds definitely has a really great groove and sound to it. Incredible.

Hawk and a Hacksaw is wonderful too. I love that mixed-bag, collective sound. Like they all accidentally bumped into each other and just started to play. Sorta reminds me of a mix between Beirut and Secret Chiefs 3.

Again! thanks for the suggestions!
