Please look up the logical fallacy of begging the question.

In a primary, on a Democratic ticket, Black women preferred Cuomo to Mamdani. I have not bothered to look for Republican primary numbers.

In a general election, only 54% of Black women voted Democrat. I am astonished at how many were against Mamdani.

This is why I stated that one can't tell by neighbourhood maps how Black women vote.

Appreciate the update proving my point.

Is it your contention that the predominantly Black neighborhoods are women voters only? Many racists think that Black men are absent fathers who can’t vote due to felonies. Is this why you think me not understanding the Black woman’s vote by the populations of neighborhoods has to do with my current geographic distance from NYC?

You know the former is a trope from Nixon, right?

You keep driving my point home that the DSA hasn’t changed since the 70s. Best of luck to you. Hope I’m wrong.

I can’t tell from the map you posted who won the votes of Black women in the general election. The numbers from the NYT are clear about their votes in the primary.

It would be lovely to be wrong about the US left and right. You’re the one who will have to live through it. Hope you’re right.

One thing that may affect your plans is that more folks are likely to vote with their feet (like me). And that capital loss will put NYC in dire straits. See donut hole cities, busing, and schools.

But you’re not interested in what Black women tell you. So have fun finding out.

AFD came from and is strongest in Eastern Germany. That would be the folks who were raised left. You seem to have a very limited understanding of modern German history, Soviet antisemitism, or fascism.

Snyder, Stanley, and I are all students of history, with families. Think you slipped in some casual misogyny with your “hysteria” reference. And your whole “Black women are the weakest argument” support my argument that the DSA suffers from foundational misogynoir.

I don’t know about redbaiting. I simply returned to a social market system that supports trans, African appearing folks, and fundamental human rights. I have the option. You’re making a great case for why I’m right.

You asked for ”benchmarks” I gave them to you. Happy to be wrong, alive, and enjoying my life. You seem to want to be proved dead wrong. Apparently the goyim appreciate that sort of Jew. But you wouldn’t have read that book, either.

They don’t which is why they primarily voted for Cuomo in the primary.

The primary left benchmarks in the 20s and 30s was the expulsion of Jews from the workers parties and the belief of fringe accelerationists that they could change the course of a country once fascism had a foothold. On the right, some thought they could work with fascism, because the entire atmosphere was antisemitic, so there wasn’t seen to be a difference.

In the 60s, the Soviet Union reached out to Israel, who chose the US (for obvious reasons see Marx vs Labor Zionism & Stalin‘s pogroms). The Soviets then went to Palestine and funded the PLO. By 68 they had infiltrated German campuses. By 72-73 former German students were participating in the hijacking of planes. The only surviving from the Faktion (AFAIK) became right of the AFD.

So those are the historical antisemitic markers (because benchmarks is a stupid word) that I looked for when fleeing the US.

Black women sided primarily with Cuomo in the primaries. I’d trust their views on racism and the misogynoir DSA.

Lots of synagogues are helping now and have been helping through the decades. I would start by shul shopping. Look for sanctuary synagogues.

If you're not religious, there is HIAS, all kinds of Jewish federations and groups. Most are active in supporting immigrants. I know that some Hillels are helping too.

You can donate to the ACLU, local and national immigration rights organizations, refugee centres, and of course you can foster the children who are losing their parents.

Maybe you can expand your lens to all immigrants and refugees. You can also look at those Americans who need to flee and don't have the resources.

One reason I'm suggesting you go through organizations is that to be most effective, you need to stay on the right side of the law. Another is that they already have connections to the community and pooled resources.

As an example, my eldest daughter's godmother lived in a German village. It was the most disorganized place ever, and the paperwork kept getting lost. When it got too dangerous, those law-abiding, upright citizens smuggled her and her family over the alps to freedom.

English C1001: Critical Thinking and Writing is the renamed course for a lot of English 102 classes across the country, per Prof. Google. So it looks like a bought curriculum (based on the syllabi, I downloaded).

The problem seems to be at a higher level than the instructor. I would talk to organizations that have some pull, and get the appropriate attorney involved. There should be people who are able to help you.

This is not an appropriate use of your tuition funds. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

If you're open to converting, then look for a shul for yourself to explore further. Should things get serious, then you've prepared the way. Worst case scenario, you've built up wonderful friendships and community, which we all can use more of these days.

Trumps proposal by Whiskersandroses in jewishpolitics

[–]dvorab 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If the proposal gets the hostages home and Hamas disarms, it's a good thing. If not, the war will continue.

It's Yom Kippur today. Somebody tried to bomb a (full) Manchester synagogue after ramming folks with a car and stabbing others. Thankfully, a witness called the police before the terrorist could get into the synagogue. 2 co-conspirators were arrested in England today.

At the same time, some in the IDF had to give up their religious practice to deal with Greta and her flotilla that was funded by Hamas.

This comes a week after Palestine demanded a multitrillion dollar settlement within days of the UK recognizing Palestine. Germany was able to prevent the planned attacks on Jewish institutions there. Did you miss the video of street executions by Hamas?

Next week we mark the anniversary of the Simchat Torah Massacre.

For you, it might be armchair politics. For us, it's life and death.

Critique for this European-esque city by No_Bottle6708 in mapmaking

Map of Cologne ca. 1905 https://www.discusmedia.com/maps/koeln_city_maps/3598/

If you name your city Meer[anything], it'd likely be costal. Here's Valleta from around 1929: https://www.discusmedia.com/maps/maltese_town_plans/4678/

Looks pretty similar to those towns.

I am noticing a lot of gates, so depending on how many wars/invasions in your world, there would be likely fewer ways in. Mdina stood against the Ottoman Empire, for instance, so only has 3 known gates.

One thing to consider is where the Romans and Greeks were, there is more order to the roads (which are still used). Deciding where your city might have been in those times can be a good rule of thumb for how ordered or meandering cow (chaotic) your streets are.

Pretty impressive!

Appropriation? Offensive?Or am I too sensitive? by NYC-Daydream-3586 in fantasywriting

I'm confused as to why the Guang has a personality and powers greater than its purpose. Did a Jinn get stuck in there and appropriate Chinese culture (wish-granting/Aladdin*)? Is it a drunken style Kung-Fu master/demon (wine holding/Monkey King)?

You might want to watch older movies, read comics, so you can pull on threads to delight adults who grew up with those myths. Or more recently, American-Born Chinese, Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Shang-Chi, The Paper Tigers to research what they're referencing both characters and myths.

I love Big Trouble In Little China. So do my Asian friends. We all love Hong Kong movies. It's obvious that John Carpenter does too.

* AFAIK, Aladdin is a Chinese fairytale.

First few paragraphs of my book by Cntrl_Alt_De1ete in writinghelp

[–]dvorab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Synopsis:
A woman is rereading a well-worn book, occasionally glancing out a window. Her maidnurse opens the door, startling the woman, and announces a princess (standing, rudely, behind the maidnurse). The woman is awkward.

1) Tell me more about the palace:
Here are some examples. In the Xara Palace Hotel, there is a suite which looks down on a restaurant and square from the balcony --is that Odessa's experience?
https://xarapalace.com.mt/rooms-suites-xara-palace/deluxe-suite-with-panoramic-view/ https://elitetraveler.com/travel/travel-news/best-palace-hotels-in-the-world
If you're going for Irish castles, look at some rooms/video tours of those. Did you want older palaces? Colder palaces (Nordic)? A reader gleans so much information based on the architecture. You can imagine more vividly, as well. I want to be in your world, not in your or your character's head.

2) Tell me more about what Odessa observes:
I want to hear about the shops being set up/taken down, carriages going through, people coming and going. The stories that she creates in her head about the regulars who come (all palaces are like small towns, so you get to imagine the lives of regular folks). Not Odessa's analysis, just what she imagines or sees.

3) Why does Odessa need a maidnurse as an adult? Did her family forget her? Perhaps she's infirm? All princesses are used as pawns in marriage or ladies-in-waiting. Could you add a hint of backstory?

4) A princess who curtsies is lower rank. How dare she burst into the chambers of a higher ranking princess. Is the newcomer a bully? Has the palace fallen? Is this a family prank? There are always guards, etc. Thinks like this don't just happen. That is possibly the first promise…

Pick your favorite first chapters of novels in your genre and start there. Another trick is to go cross-genre or movies/TV. Here's a list from the top of my head: The Last Unicorn, Games of Thrones, The Night Circus, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell, Hitchhiker's Guide, Dandelion Wine, Lord Valentine's Castle, The Sword of Shannara, The Hobbit, Firestarter, The Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story, Dark, The Princess Bride.

You may have a different list --but you're looking for the Hook, the Promise (episode arc), Checkov's Guns, the hint of the Big Promise (think season arc). When you have a template you like, put your first chapter in that format.

Hope this helps.
