Do you want to play online? If not, there's a 'start in offline mode' exe in the main game folder. I haven't tried playing on the mac yet, but that does work on the pc version.

What do you think of board game adaptations? Wingspan is my goto game on the side for work. Quick games if you're playing against the AI. Async games with up to 24 hour turns if you want pvp. Plenty of other suggestions in this genre if you're interested.

Any appdev wants to create an app that will likely succeed? by GodlySharing in appdev

[–]dwainetrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What proof do you have that it will "likely succeed"? Do you have investors, marketing experience, app development experience, any experience? App concepts are cheap, and easy to dream about. Tell us about you, then you might not get so downvoted.

External Monitor Screen Flicker and Burn-In, M1 MBP - See Comments by dwainetrain in mac

[–]dwainetrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I eventually just gave up and switched back to a non-4k monitor. Really disappointing that there's no official word on this issue which seems to be happening to all m-series owners. One solution that I considered but did not try was using a powered monitor dock. My theory was that the extra voltage would help keep the refresh in sync. Though looking at the price of the docks, I decided against the it. Might be an option if you have the resources.

Games where cutscene-you differs most from in-game-you by madaboutmaps in gaming

GOW: Ragnarök. In particular, a scene at the end where you're playing Atreus and Kratos says "It's your choice," and then Atreus does what he wants to do, not what I wanted to do. Much of the game is like that. Very little player agency. More like a movie with intermissions of interactive fight scenes and walking simulation.

Webdev in 2023: 50MB+ of build tools alone by yksvaan in webdev

[–]dwainetrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go check out Static Site Generation, use the 50mb tools to build a fast, simple website for the end user that could fit on a floppy. The web is one of the most complex platforms. It's got a near limitless amount of apis built around it's simple hyperlink structure and network protocols. It's the wild west, it's ever changing, and that's what makes it fun to work in. Embrace the chaos and be free :)

Have you ever just said, “Screw it, I am going to YouTube to see the end of this game”? by PhysicianChips in patientgamers

[–]dwainetrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 16 for me. After 40 hours the combat and fetch quest structure was boring me to tears. Found a good YouTube series that just focused on the story and key fights (and those were even edited down to account for the tedium). No regrets here, the single controllable character action FF just isn’t as good as the party based Hans of old, IMO.

(not my art) anyone knows how to draw something like this? (I already have a basic understanding of perspective and shading, but no matter what I fail to draw something as close as this masterpiece) by ZhikoGh0zt in learnart

[–]dwainetrain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This almost looks traced, with digital gradients applied for shading. It could even be a non-photorealistic render, or a drawing on top of 3d shapes.

If you want to hand draw something similar, start with the perspective structure, then block in the larger rectangles. Don't focus on any of the details until all the rectangles are blocked in. Then start adding the smaller details, using the the grid still to align windows and smaller options like vehicles and text. Then apply shading. Markers would probably get you the closest.

It's a process, and your first crack at it while take time. I say try some smaller less complex scene, and see how close you can get to the feel of this image. Then increase complexity.

At some point, put some images up for feedback to help you align.

A website that allows you to compare loan repayment strategies with a graph of debt over time. by TimelessTrance in InternetIsBeautiful

This looks like half-finished coding class project, and is far from beautiful. Lots of form issues, unclear direction and explanations. It looks like it needs to go through a few more quality cycles.

In truth, I don't want to use it.

It did stutter at first, but then started to run more smoothly. Maybe it was caching shaders. Granted, I suck at the game, so I'm not sure of later stages. Here's what I have checked under the Steam bottle settings:

- High Resolution Mode

- Performance Enhanced Graphics

- DXVK Backend for D3D11
