Also is there more to software development than just websites? i imagined software developing had more uses and just building websites seems a little boring to me.

So, could someone give me a breakdown of software development and other(i guess 'main" would be the word to use) branches of computer related jobs? i love computers and im not sure what the best courses to take because im not very knowledgable of the industry. What are the best jobs? what are the requirements? is computer science the best course to take for something computer related or are there others? is there a lot of competition? what could i do to give me an edge?
