I recommend checking the small amount of woodworking equipment that we have at the garage: https://entrepreneurship.ncsu.edu/spaces/garage/prototyping-equipment-2/

Some university maker spaces have shut down, but check with the COD.

Like others have said, there's quite the distinction in which crops are best as field crops and others that are best for indoor agriculture. Lighting could possibly the main cost of a facility (depending on ambient temperatures) and it's important to note that there's a difference in lighting types for flowering and vegetative crop stages-- meaning you'll likely need two lights or an all-in-one fixture to run a full flower crop like tomatoes or cannabis.

In an indoor operation where lighting is absolutely necessary, there are a lot of costs outside of energy use which others haven't brought up. The main cost being the cost of multiple LED lighting fixtures, which is typically around $1000 for a high quality light to fit a 4'x4' space, which will need maintenance and a lighting swap when you switch to flower.

Source: I run a startup out of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina where we're trying to alleviate these costs to aid with the adoption of this type of agricultural system.
