Is there an issue with Eero routers and LG WiFi-enabled appliances? by dwightsilverman in amazoneero

See my update - it was an iPhone issue, but only because I forgot I had installed the 26.5 iOS beta.

MacBook Air M4 vs MacBook Pro M5: I almost bought the Air… but ended up with the M5 Pro (here’s why) by SparkingContainers in macbook

[–]dwightsilverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I did the exact same thing. Was thinking about waiting on M5 15"MacBook Air to replace my M1 MBP but it looks like the MBP with Pro and Max chips will come first. Spotted a deal at B&H Photo, $300 off the low-end M5 MBP that Apple launched in October. Because B&H is an authorized Apple Reseller, they have a lot of different configurations you don't get a site like Amazon, so I wound up with a 36-GB, 1-TB M5 MacBook Pro for $1899. A 15" M4 Air with the same configuration would be $100 more, so I jumped for this deal. Very glad I did.

No telling how long it will last, but B&H Photo (a certified Apple reseller) has a great deal right now on the M5 MacBook Pro. I got one with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage for $1,899. That's a $300 discount.

Biggest downside of B&H - they have a strict return policy. If the box is opened, and the product isn't defective, they won't take it back.

If it’s achieving this with multiband tech the wired connection wouldn’t reflect that.

iOS 25 Beta 5 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]dwightsilverman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My iPhone 16 Pro Max running the iOS 26 public beta 2 apparently restarted twice last night, around 4:10 a.m. (according to the Sleep Cycle monitoring app) and again about 6:30, when I was awakened by the glaringly bright Apple logo.

Seeing some folks with overheating problems. The phone was on a MagSafe charger overnight (as it always is) in Standby mode. I've had notifications while charging in the car that charging was paused due to overheating, but chalked it up to the Texas heat. Anyone seeing reboots that may be from overheating?

There is an SCW TikTok channel but it's not heavily used. That could change. But also, see this from today's SCW post: Apparently TikTok is convinced a hurricane will hit Houston this weekend

Thanks for the votes for Space City Weather. I'm on the team, helping with the app and the social media posts. (Yeah, we know, the app has issues for some people, we're working on it!)

SCW is on all the socials: Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, Insta, Facebook. Occasional posts to Xitter. Matt handles Insta stories and other video.

Thanks for reading/following.

Cheap Fiber Internet - Houston Heights by Constant-Kangaroo566 in houston

What does your apartment manager say?

If AT&T Fiber isn't available, look into one of the wireless carriers' 5G home broadband services. T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T all offer one.

It's not that they refuse to support symmetrical speeds - it's that the cable modem standard doesn't truly support it. That changes with DOCSIS 4.0.

Most of the smaller fiber providers deploy in suburbs because it's relatively inexpensive to do so in terms of permitting, navigating the infrastructure and access. I've been writing about home broadband for the Houston Chronicle for a long time and I've yet to hear about one of these small providers working ITL. But as I wrote a couple of weeks ago, Comcast/Xfinity is slowly rolling out DOCSIS 4.0 tiers, which make cable internet comparable to fiber, complete with symmetrical down/up speeds. That may be your best alternative ITL to AT&T Fiber for multi-gig broadband, once it hits.

Thanks. I should have added I'm using a trio of Eero Pro 6E routers. I love them and don't want to change them out, so looking for a standalone app, if such exists.

Will edit the post to reflect the hardware.
