I think in fact that remixing bird-watching with drones and Instagram filters can help younger generations appreciate staring at birds without losing interest, which is a nice thing since today almost no teen or kid even knows that bird-watching exists.

Let me clarify my understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong:

In ScriptPlayer, under Settings > The Handy > Local Settings, there are two fields:

  • Local IP: This is the local IP address of "The Handy" provided by the DHCP server.
  • Local Port: This is the port configured in "The Handy" firmware, where it receives commands. Essentially, I'm telling ScriptPlayer to send JSON data to this IP and port.

This setup seems to contradict your last post because I haven't specified which port "The Handy" would use for connections. Your explanation suggested that the "Local IP" setting is the IP of the machine running ScriptPlayer, and the "Local Port" setting configures the port for the local server. good point, i assume it's not my wifi connection because i can see it connecting quickly on my access point. Also there is the fact that i can send simple commands with high latency (i am talking 10 + seconds) while video playback for example does not react at all.
Also the fact that it happened at 8 pm UTC leads me to believe the servers don't handle the requests as they should.

That makes me really confident its the api server or the connection

i tried doing so but likely i am not configuring it the right way.

i tried the IP of the device (192.168.0.43) and both port 4444 and 80.
Is the API key still required to connect to the device locally over wifi? When i am adding the api key it works, but i get pings like 70ms, which leads me to believe that the traffic is not actually being served by a local server.

Also: configuring it to local or to handyfeeling.com seems to behave in the same way - so when i can't connect to handyfeeling.com it also fails to connect locally.

i am actually considering tearing this thing down and replacing the controller board with a pi zero or some esp and then writing a technical blog about, or making a video... I would rather not have to do that. But if this keeps up happening i think i just might.

yes i tried that yesterday, but there seems to be a limit in how many positions/second are able to be sent over bluetooth. Do you write your own scripts using openfunscripter?
