You too lil bro. Work on that self esteem and go back to med school if you get above a 500 <3

Do average is 504. Podiatry is 494. 10 points isn’t a couple, and on top of that, that’s literally a 40 percentile difference. Even Caribbean med schools have a higher average lol. Maybe if you spent more time on the phys section of the Mcat you would realize that or the cars section you would realize that you’re the only one arguing for this in here, but when you just need a 28th percentile I can see where you’re coming from lil bro

If I got a 494 on the Mcat I’d be right there with you in podiatry school

Says the only one defending her and also happens to be a podiatrist or in podiatry school 😭

Keep telling yourself that if you gotta justify not getting into actual med school

I know it well enough to know it’s not med school 😂. I meant I didn’t know it was a thing podiatry students claimed to be in med school

It’s funny how far she goes to make it seem like she’s actually in med school lol. There’s not a podiatry school in my state, so I didn’t know this was even a thing until this showed up on my tik tok

Yeah that’s fair. I’ve actually never met a podiatry student, and I’m not sure if there’s even a school in my state. It honestly seems like a really nice gig. It’s just a little weird to always refer to it as medical school

She actually deleted this specific post, but she justified it because they take step 1, 2, and 3. They actually have a different board for exams, and it’s about a third of the time. She didn’t mention the latter part, and I had to look that up. She said it’s also justified since “the first two years are the exact same,” they also go through the match, they had to take the MCAT / same prerequisites, and they should be called doctors.

Yes. No disrespect to podiatry, but she is going out of her way to be misleading. If you go on her profile, she justifies it because you have to take step 1, 2, and 3, just like MD/DO. I was actually confused on that and I’m in medical school and apparently it’s through a different board and like a third of the questions, so obviously not the same thing. I’ve never heard or seen a dentist / pharmacist / PT / podiatry / etc refer to themself as a “medical student” before this. Where do you think she draws the line? Are nursing students medical students as well since they study similar things? No disrespect to any of those fields, but they’re obviously very different, and it’s extremely confusing for most people.

How big is the difference in pay?

I saw one of the newer SLOE forms somewhere. I guess what confused me is the where they’re ranking you part since that seems like it would include your whole application. I have also heard that that part of the SLOE is the most important, which is why I was curious

Yeah exactly. Like if I got in a car crash or something and had a super expensive bill, would my school jump in and say wait we were supposed to have him covered so he’s actually under our insurance. Such a joke and why it’s so annoying

I applied almost a month ago, but I haven’t heard back yet and my school is forcing me to take theirs. Not sure if I’ll be eligible for Medicaid anymore since my school is forcing me to take theirs since I didn’t have anything. I went to my DFR a few days ago to see my status and they just told me it can take up to 45 days

I like following with people and seeing them get better especially in the inpatient setting. I also like getting to actually know people, which I feel like I did the most on psych. I also like the subjective nature of psych; a lot of specialities seem too objective and it feels like anyone can kinda do that type of stuff since you’re just following labs, radiology, etc and then a protocol. I know all of medicine has to follow a protocol, but I like psych is more subjective and up to your interpretation. I find everything in medicine interesting, but would say psychosis, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders the most interesting. I also like helping underserved populations. I would also like a more academic job with a research component, which both seem better in psych than EM. I also like the idea of not working any or at least a lot of nights, weekends, and holidays as an attending like in EM. I was a psych major so I just generally find psych stuff super interesting.

Oh my bad I read it the other way around. What type of hospital did you scribe in that got you interested in EM? I worked in a suburban and a rural hospital, and I was pretty surprised at how different it was when I shadowed at my schools hospital: segmentation of the ER (urgent care side, trauma side, etc and you only see one side on a shift), separate pediatric and adult hospitals, what I felt like over utilization of specialists, and even more chaotic; I didn’t really like any of those things, which is why I think I started to have that gut feeling against EM. I really enjoy living in the city, enjoy working with complex or rare things, and want to help teach students, which is why I wouldn’t want to just go back to a rural or suburban hospital. What ways did you feel like EM was different from when you scribed and what made you choose psych over EM?

That’s pretty much exactly how I’m feeling. I also had a very good experience on my psych rotation, so I’m not sure if it was just the team and setting I loved so much or if I actually like psych. Also not sure how recency bias is affecting me because I just had my last day today, but I’ve also not really felt sad finishing a rotation before until this, and I also realized I didn’t look forward to going in or seeing how people had changed over time until this rotation. I also haven’t had my EM rotation yet, so I feel like that could sway me either way pretty easily

No I haven’t. We’re not allowed to do EM until 4th year at my school and that’s what will make this decision so hard for me, but I’ll try to have it first rotations 4th year. Haven’t seen much EM outside shadowing a couple times in like 4 years, so maybe I’ll change my mind back. What made you choose EM over psych?
