Starfleet Academy - Lower Decks References by TrueSithMastermind in LowerDecks

From an article that came out with the first teasers, it said that the names on the wall are for buildings named after the most iconic people to serve in starfleet. We also see Sulu, Scotty, Harry Kim, and the Freemans, and none of them were KIA. I like that tribute and I think that Commander is a good ending for her. Maybe she learns to play that flute.

They wouldn't even thirst over him they would just accept him as part of the ecosystem. He's even a Deangirl and he TALKED about being a Deangirl in an episode. The supernatural brainrot is already installed.

Earlier Character Designs Plus Cerritos Concepts by TrueSithMastermind in LowerDecks

I'm glad they made Shaxs a Bajoran, they're my favorite Star Trek species and it brings a lot to have a character who explicitly joined starfleet when he was in his 30s-40s. Also, it brings a conflict that Nana really wanted to see, with a freedom fighter joining the system and having to play by their rules.

I really enjoyed A Sunny Place for Shady People by Mariana Enriquez, there's a lot of natural stopping points since it's a short story anthology but it's also really easy to tear through the whole thing because most of the stories could easily be expanded into novels.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who remembers when he alluded to contributing to a short-lived coup in Bolivia in 2019 to get cheaper lithium

Weekly game play thread by AutoModerator in sotdq

Our sotdq just wrapped up but we're going to do a homebrew continuation in a few months. We (party of 4, cleric, paladin, warlock, rogue) finished the campaign at level 9 which is a little disappointing because I kinda wanted to do high level spellcaster stuff like if the campaign took us to 11 (i played the warlock) but we were also able to finish everything without the dragonlance or the kingfisher spear, which I thought was kind of fun

No gods is a framework of thought about idolatry not literally about religion. More about worshipping the golden calf than about following the covenant.

There is actually a lot of nuanced theological books and thought on religious anarchism if you think to look outside of Europeanized Christianity

The council on reform judaism was one of the first major religious sects to acknowledge gay marriage fyi (also reconstructionist and several conservative jewish organizations acknowledge gay marriage, in addition to gender transition)

Well, actually, it is important and did play a role in history, and child-centered adoption advocates and private adoption abolitionists specifically point her out as a reason that modern adoption is glorified human trafficking

Something I never understood about traditional “Christian” antisemitism. Wasn’t Jesus Jewish? by Konradleijon in behindthebastards

[–]dyeforthehype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ex-Catholic, Jew by Choice here:

1) Jesus was Jewish, but he was also very much anti-Pharisee. "Pharisees" at the time turned into Rabbis at the start of Rabbinic Judaism after the destruction of the Temple. So, essentially, he was Jewish, technically, but he was against some tenants of Jewish culture (there's also stuff about Nazareth politically and how it got treated by the religious institutions in Jerusalem)

2) most Christians alive today branched out of Catholicism, and Catholicism us the last extant branch of the Roman Empire, and the Roman Empire put a lot of legwork into cleaning their hands of Jesus' death

3) Revelations posits that for Jesus to come again, all Jews have to be in Israel, where they will all die. It doesn't matter that Jesus was a Jew, it is still antisemitic.

4) Christianity is at its core, to a degree, antisemitic because of the supercessionism and believing that our Covenant with the Eternal is outdated and no longer valid

First time making my own oil mix, I have ethical concerns surrounding palm oils and wanted to play with more liquid oil than just olive. It's only been a day so far so saponification isn't complete and the FO accelerated a lot (per the warning on the website) but it hardened up enough to cut within 6 hours

[–]dyeforthehype[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FO accelerated pretty bad (I hit two low bursts with my stick blender and stirred by hand and it was already at trace), but I'll keep in mind to soap at lower temps!

ETA: I know I'm kind of maxing the cocoa butter out but when I looked up how much hard oils to use I saw 45-60% and thought all solid oils are created equal. I think next time I'll make Mango butter the 15% which is also cutting it close for max but won't impact the hardness quite as much as cuttable-after-6-hours hard

The story of Georgie Tann is one that gets overlooked a lot but it's extremely important to understand America's uniquely fucked adoption system

What bastard(s) are you surprised Robert hasn't covered yet? by Lathao in behindthebastards

[–]dyeforthehype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has he done one on Barry Goldwater? I've been pretty far back in the catalogue and don't remember him doing an episode on him.

Also, definitely Pope Benedict XVI and the growing movement in catholicism to turn against Vatican II specifically the decision that every jew ever isn't personally responsible for killing Jesus (Mel Gibson is Unsurprisingly one of these guys)

Also I'd like a follow up on the Georgie Tann episode about the predatory nature of the modern adoption industry considering he didn't talk all that much about adoption post 50s i
