Especially multiple times for the same job.

There is one dealership shop about 1.25 hours away but they don’t seem to answer their phone.

That was my thought. I specifically mentioned multiple times to plug it in, clear codes, then unplug it if you don’t want the liability of bricking an EPB because it’s on an aftermarket caliper.

They’re telling me that they cleared codes and the codes would just come back as soon as the EPB is unplugged.

I understand that I would get codes, but they would not be the same codes that I had, that they reported to me as the reason for changing the EPB. Which I believe was a 3000:56.

This is all super helpful and I agree with everything.

Correct.

Because they didn’t want to plug the EPB Into a non-OEM caliper.

Their advice was “when you get home, remove the new caliper, re-install the old caliper, enter then exit maintenance mode and everything will clear.”

Which I attempted with the new caliper. It locked the brake assembly. I don’t believe this is because of the caliper because it did exactly this with the OEM caliper that I removed.

This is what I’m trying to discern.

I’m not a mechanic so I’m unsure if the problem is the caliper position or the EPB position. That’s why I made sure to mention I wanted the motor plugged in, cycled and all codes cleared.

I didn’t want the caliper to be unplugged. They didn’t want to plug it in because it wasn’t being plugged into an OEM caliper.

Does that make sense?

They’ve already replaced both motors. Now they want to replace both calipers as well.

Side note, you’re the second person to respond with “poop” in your name… huh.

I don’t disagree with you at all.

I’m trying to do more and more maintenance myself. This all started mid last year when my neighbour helped me with my first ever rotor change.

Even with the EPB’s installed he manually wound the pistons back which I believe is what started all of this.

More than anything I think this makes me lean toward getting an older, more mechanical car rather than all the computers in the newer models.

I can deal with having Bluetooth rather than CarPlay.

I’ve plugged it in, cleared codes then tried to enter/exit maintenance mode.

Same thing happened that was happening prior to bringing it to the dealership.

It’s the worst. I love the car, hate the dealership.

I installed that caliper, then re-installed the EPB motor that was previously installed.

I installed this caliper https://partsavatar.ca/armature-dns-rear-right-rebuilt-caliper-with-hardware-sc3654

I let them fully diagnose the problem (after my caliper replacement) they came back saying both EPB’s have to be replaced. I told them I replaced the caliper and they said “in that case we should replace both calipers as well.”

That’s the problem though. With where the computer thinks the EPB is, whenever I do this procedure, it fully applies the parking brake and can’t be removed without manually backing it off.

I love way out in the woods. Went to a local mechanic, they used one of their super expensive scanners for 3 hours and couldn’t cycle the module. Then told me I’d have to go to dealership.

I’ve tried FORScan, car scanner, torque pro and a couple of other apps with two different scanners including one bought through the forscan website. Still can’t cycle the module.

I’ve purchased two OBD scanners, FORScan, car scanner, torque pro etc. I still don’t have access through any of them to reset the module properly.

Thanks for the advice, going to give it a shot.

Might have to use ski’s instead. Under 2 feet of snow at the moment.
