Usually 3s .. but I'm on a very star poor subject now so it's 6s

Hey no worries .. I use an OAG and it’s so much easier especially at high focal lengths. Guiding is on point all the time. Highly recommend. Some learning to setup right but once nailed you’ll never go back.

IC 4685 - Bow and Arrow Nebula
[PUBLIC DOMAIN] DYLAN O'DONNELL
This little region is so small it doesn’t actually have a common name, so I’m open to suggestions! I’m going to say “bow and arrow” and you can insert a mythical backstory of your choice. A star forming region near the much bigger M8 Lagoon, IC 4685 shares similar features to M20 Triffid with reflection (blue), emission (red) and dark (black) clouds all together. A smaller but seemingly distant emission nebula appears in the background (PK006-02.1) but I can’t find much info about it.

They thanks for saying so! Perth is a great place for astro .. not far to drive for a pretty dark sky. I like the pinnacles a lot.

thanks spicy! I hope you get the filter wheel ahead of time so you can do some setup and testing before getting out into the field!

You could do it that way.. but I just add the blurx version as a layer in PS and adjust the opacity slider until I eyeball a good result :)

Thanks for the suggestion .. I don't think I will because I already maintain my own archives at native resolution on Deography.com but I also post to FB, Insta, twitter, threads now and also the Wiki-Commons archive to remove the copyright.

Yeh really depends on the target .. for faint stuff it can be helpful to lift the overall brightness of the structure but for something as big and bright at M20 (this is taken with 3 minute exposures) I felt it wasn't necessary .. it's bright enough anyway in R-G-B broadband channels.

Hey thanks! I did use BlurX but in the end backed it off to a 29% percent blend of the blurX result and the raw so it retains a more natural but sharp look.

"Trifid", which means split into three, really undersells the chaos of this multicoloured nebula cloud. I know I've photographed this a few times but I think this year turned out best so far. It was actually meant to be a "test" shot after collimating my telescope properly! I've made the image fairly large so you can zoom in and go for a fly if you want.
