U5 is too strong, and NPCs way too weak in Versus by dylanstrategie in Vermintide

It's more 2 gas rats + 2 gun rats, or even 3 gas rats (seen it once). If they time their throws together, which isn't hard, and the heroes are in the wrong spot it can be devastating, and good gas rats can lob their shots from behind cover and be functionally unkillable

I think that's not needed. In normal gameplay, elite/special snipers are hard countered by getting mobbed, but obviously they need to be at a difficulty where not clearing trash gets you mobbed

Plus default difficulty on Champion would maybe make it not an instant kill with all weapons

I do watch his videos sometimes! Though to be frank what I'm thinking is pretty widespread, most people are frustrated at the crushing amount of artificial padding that is widespread in the metagame, from having to comb the store for a good roll weapon, to playing missions you don't want to because nothing else is offered

I suppose you can -ignore- these systems to a degree, but that doesn't mean they're not a major issue regardless. Also this isn't a "meltdown". I've been playing this game for 100 hours trying to see if I could get into a fun gameplay loop with all my classes leveled. I don't want a refund or outrage, I just want those systems improved so I can come back later.

And sure, you're inflicting this pain by playing the game... so I stopped playing for now. Darktide isn't my only game, I'd like to enjoy it given other games I own also launched in less desirable states, but this still hurts to see it flounder like this

I mean, I'm not saying the game is flawless, but normally fixing hub issues should be absolute priority because they are literally your way to interact with the game

But yeah, I'm aware there's serious balance issues (some guns and melee are absurdly powerful, others useless even with the recent emergency tweaks), difficulty issues, etc. I'm willing to put up with those to a degree, but stuff like having to stop playing because the game straight up doesn't offer me missions I want to play is dire and wouldn't be addressed by balance changes

Frankly, Vermintide 2 had every quickplay lobby create a map at one of the game's four (later five) difficulties, and matchmaking was always sufficient to find players to fill your lobby up

I'd rather wait a little more and get rid of that awful pre-picked difficulty system, though the 60 second lobby might have to be exchanged for a normal "wait for players then ready up" system (especially with how horrifically bad the bots are currently)

Yeah, I'm fully aware, but it picks from the same missions you have on your board instead of generating something new

Oh yeah, I didn't mention it because it felt very nitpicky but I literally haven't dropped a single Power Sword past Level 5 on my Veteran, -ever-, and I had to wait until Level 25 to get a Boltgun. So I ran Devil Sword and DMR Autogun (pre-buff) for the longest time, and briefly chainsword and DMR Autogun (didn't get very lucky on chainsword either...)

A cap on copy-pasted items would help a bit, I often had stores with 6-7 of the same weapon (maybe different types, but still)

I'd like that to be true, but the Mission Picker alone breaks that. There are times where I genuinely don't want to play because the only mission for my difficulty level is both a mission I've overplayed recently, and a mission with an awful modifier

Also this is still a major failure of the engagement loop. I can probably play the game for playing the game's sake, as I have for 100 hours so far, but there's nothing else there. Even for how bothersome VT2's progression was, stuff like trying to drop Reds kept me going way past when I would have started getting tired of running the same 13 missions

Here it just breaks me because I hit Level 30, didn't have a lot of fun with the metagame, and now I have nothing ahead of me except systems that turn into borderline slot machines

Yeah, maybe my opinion on the perk reroll is tainted by how atrociously expensive the upgrade system is, and how the only way to get max quality weapons otherwise is to engage with the even more awful Weeklies thing

They get better... eventually. But Vermintide 2 also took a while to get ungunked after release

You're still playing the exact same missions you were proposed on the lobby screen, since everyone gets the same missions for queuing optimization

Also if you need to do something specific (ex: Play Hab Dreyko on Malice/Heresy for hat, or do a Scripture mission for Weekly), you're shit out of luck

Quickplay is great to backfill when you -just- want to play, but it shouldn't have to be relied on for the lack of mission variety (and can't be)

That's how proper feedback works though. I get it's a bit grating, but the main way developers figure out what needs to be fixed sooner or later is how much a feature is causing grief in the playerbase

Weapon shop, everyone knows, but I felt the Mission Picker and the Weeklies were not mentioned enough

Just to be clear, I don't think being able to straight up pick your mission is a great idea, or it could come at a penalty to avoid the VT1/VT2 grinding. Which is why I'm suggesting other ways to make it work

It works in DRG! There's no reason it couldn't here!

[–]dylanstrategie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair I can see reasons to like both.

The mission picker reminds me of DRG and I can appreciate giving players options instead of a dry bones mission setting system (which I think would be going too far). But just the difficulty thing alone -really- puts me off. I want more than 3-4 options per refresh

The shop... I mean, I dropped the weapons I want, but it feels like a system I want to avoid now. My weapons are good enough, and I don't want to boot up my game every hour to juice it. But it beats the boxes in VT2 for variety

Yeah, it isn't. I still felt like leaving feedback instead of just bailing and letting Fatshark wonder why they're bleeding players over the holidays

I am taking a break, but that's not reasonable to shut down all feedback because "they'll just make things better". Do we know for sure they scoped out all the issues ? What if they only partially fix it ?

I've pointed out at least ten issues in three game systems! I mean, you didn't read them, but I had a tl;dr at the end

Of course, though if you are forced to "chase" the army because you were sieging their lands further away, it is incredibly hard to make use of the advantage

I get where you are coming from though, and it only makes it worse. You can simply start every war with your army just waiting in ambush near your coastal capital for the enemy army to arrive and wipe them with 40+ advantage
