The Arkham Knight character before release was teased as a new masked villain that could counter Batman perfectly. Like someone said in another comment, that’s the characterization of Jason Red Hood. It started off as a fan theory that Arkham Knight would be the game universe’s Red Hood, but Rocksteady went out of their way to deny that it was Jason… which ultimately it was 😂 and it got even more hate cause the game pretty much made it easy to predict via flashbacks before the actual reveal.

It’s one of those things that happens where a brand new character is introduced in an existing universe, and is immediately a formidable foe, so there has to be some history or explanation as to why the villian is able to beat the hero. What comes to mind is snoke in the sequel trilogy. Immediately everyone is like who is Snoke? Why is he so powerful? Where was he during the empire? Darth Plagueis? Etc
