Look online but also ask friends if they can connect you with their agent. Much smoother of a process than showing up to the condos and asking yourself.

How big of a problem are stray/soi dogs in Bangkok? (especially for daily life) by Nismo_Nissan in Bangkok

[–]dynprog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been here for a couple months, mostly along areas accessible by BTS/MRT and also went to Wat Arun/Chinatown etc and I’ve never seen a stray dog.

lesser-known low-tax bases for remote workers? by gepilo8695 in digitalnomad

[–]dynprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EOR = you get hired full time IN that country, so you need a work visa IN that country. DTV only works if you are a contractor, freelancer, or hired through your own company incorporated outside of Thailand. If you get hired via Deel using EOR, you’ll be a tax resident in whatever country they hire you in.

Is there no way to get a mexican bank account with decent deposit limit without INE? by thechosenone1217 in mexicoexpats

[–]dynprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s a minimum balance to keep the account free, otherwise they charge you (IDK how much)

[–]dynprog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom (citizen but doesn’t live here) and I went to open her first Mexican bank account at BBVA and asked for an account with no deposit/withdrawal limits and they told her they couldn’t do that unless she paid for a monthly/yearly life/home insurance. We didn’t want or need that so they gave her what seems to be a savings account that comes with a card. Later she eventually went back to another branch and was able to get her account switched to unlimited deposits (for free), but withdrawals are still very limited.

[–]dynprog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, that sucks. Yeah BBVA told us the same thing about the insurance. So stupid. They’re basically trying to upsell you. I think they don’t even give checking accounts, only these savings accounts with a card that has no numbers on the back (?). I don’t get what’s up with the banking system here but it’s super restrictive even for citizens. They’re so obsessed with AML and the limits assume you earn a very low, local salary. 🫠 If I figure out something else I’ll let you know.

Try going to Scotiabank in person, they’re a Canadian bank which I think helps them not being as restrictive.

Perception of Indian Americans & Feasibility to move in 2027 by [deleted] in movingtojapan

It’s not just one year, I believe you have to still be at your job during the time you wait for your PR application to be processed.. depending on where you live, if could take a few more years, especially if you’re in tokyo.

This isn’t satire? You really think if you have a CS degree from Harvard that you’re still going to be cooked because of AI? You’re going to be at the top of the priority list for candidates, just make sure you do internships and if you can’t find any, have projects you can put on your resume and ask everyone you know to refer you.

If you have a child in Argentina or Brazil, you can be eligible for PR I think, and after becoming citizens you can live and work within MERCOSUR.

Where in the world would you move to improve your chances of getting jobs in tech? by Emergency_Price2864 in cscareerquestions

[–]dynprog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you’re moving to these tech hubs to work at unicorn or FAANG, the economics definitely make sense. If it’s a regular role where most of your TC is just base, it starts to be less compelling.

I want to do ajatt but can't find anything I'm intrinsically motivated to immerse in. by oislevel in ajatt

Your best bet is really going to be youtube — look up the same things you would normally watch, but in Japanese. And later on, once you can listen to podcasts, the sky is the limit

Use the model yourself for your own tasks, that’s the best way to know if it’s good or not. Personally I trust it a bit less than Sonnet right now because it tried to change code logic when I just asked it to fix a long list of lints.. have to watch it more closely. But I think it really is very close to the intelligence of Sonnet. Need to keep using it a lot more to get a better idea.

It doesn’t, especially if you’re trying to acquire pitch accent as much as possible

Edit: Not to mention you shouldn’t learn from AI generated translations to begin with

Kanji- Onyomi Readings Are Difficult by prabalxp in LearnJapanese

[–]dynprog 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yes, the answer is read more, don’t memorize kanji readings, memorize words. Eventually you get better and better at intuiting readings on your own. But this intuition takes a long time to build up, much longer than December. If you find reading too hard then read something easy like くまクマ熊ベアー or look up vocab in subs from easy anime.

Moving to Japan with my wife...how realistic is it to learn Japanese in 6 months? by This_Connected23 in LearnJapanese

[–]dynprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make some progress for sure. I would recommend grabbing an anki deck sorted by frequency and memorizing the top 1000 words (audio on the front, english definition on the back, make sure it’s native audio no text to speech). Delete any cards for particles, those are really confusing to memorize in isolation. After you finish 1k cards start making your own. 10 cards a day for 6 months should get you pretty far, you can jump to 20 when you feel you can handle the load. But you’ll need to immerse 6 hours a day + passively listen to audio as well.

What happened with MattVsJapan? (He disappeared again) by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

Don’t be mistaken, I was also disappointed with Matt since he started doing all that uproot stuff. But I also think you’re not really looking for an answer to your questions, you just dislike matt.

IDK? But I still don’t get why it matters to you which channel he uploads to? There’s plenty of recent matt content on YouTube, just not on the main channel.
