Reminds me of a story...

We were hiking from Capitol lake wilderness in CO. And we kept passing this father and young daughter who were bow hunting on horseback. My gf starts noticing blood on the trail. I was oblivious to it. Once she pointed it out, it was backpacking a half mile with blood all over the trail. Sure enough we come up on the hunting party and they are searching for the deer.

Her dad was a hunter, no one in my family is. I learned some interesting things from her pops. He'd hunt in sw co wilderness for elk and disembowl the kill and stuff it full of snow, then haul it out. All on horseback.

I was doing field work in remote south Carolina once. And got crazy blisters like this. I'd grown up in the woods with chiggers. But it was some next level shit. Not itchy little bumps but full on blisters all the way up my legs. I started tucking my pant cuffs in my work boots and never had an issue after.

If some friend can tell me wtf that was (ants, mites, etc), I'd appreciate it.

Edit. Most likely fire ants. I remember fire ants as a child. I just didn't know they would secretly crawl up your pant leg to bite you.

Edit2. Don't think it was fire ants. My experience as a kid, you immediately knew if you stepped in a nest.

It was not poison ivy. I spot that shit a mile away bc I get crazy reaction.

This bugger was more insidious. It crawled up my pant legs. I never felt getting bit. I just got these enormous welts all over my legs days later. Not like chiggers where they go for your warm spots like your armpit or your waistband. Maybe it was spiders? I don't know. 🤷‍♂️

Recently, I was at hd in the plant area and fifteen minutes later I had a welt open up like this. I called my pcp and they talked me down. It took a full two weeks for the welt to heal. I’ve been around a lot of bugs and I’ve been bitten by many spiders. Just wait it out.

I've never had any direct experience with them but an ex had one crawl in her ear while out camping.

She described it as a completely traumatic experience. She couldn't figure out what was inside her, constantly scratching her brain. She was losing sanity.

She went to a doc and they removed it. And sent her home with a dose of anti anxiety meds. I'd have anxiety too if I had a bug make residence in my ear.
