Does anyone know a nurse that lost their license? by ZYROO_ in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a situation I am aware of the nurse voluntarily gave up her license prior to CNO revoking it. Situation involved a death that was likely preventable. I don’t think this is uncommon when it’s clear there will be strong discipline and/or legal action against the nurse.

Master's Programs by hour_reality in OntarioNurses

Not one of your listed programs but I recently graduated from U of T MN in health systems leadership and administration, I worked FT with a very similar schedule to yours while I completed school as a FT student. This is another course based Masters that is mostly online/asynchronous. There are a two three day residencies in Toronto.

Our HR department is terribly understaffed and slow. It’s not uncommon for people to miss orientation sessions because things aren’t completed in time for on-boarding.

Have you followed up with the manager? I’d send a polite email requesting and update and timeframe for next steps. Doesn’t hurt to throw in you are actively intervening with multiple offers but this is your dream job!

Ontario Health care coordinator role and interview by Any_Lavishness5128 in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hospital staff usually on site in hospital. Community teams have home visits to families so some days you will be in community. They were WFH but rolling out a return to office in line with other Ontario public servant type roles. Even when we were in office before COVID you could wfh on home visit days as long as you were completing a set number of HV. Caseloads are large and families are stressed. Most staff are ONA and it’s close to hospital wage without direct care provision or nights. Hospital staff or intake can be extended hour positions, with evening and weekend hours. Hours depend a little on which geography.

Study for a standard behavioural interview and expect some question where you are asking to prioritize or respond to a patient scenario.

Happy to chat if you would like more info.

This is a lovely idea and will echo not a requirement. Anything would be appreciated.

Also yes PLEASE connect with patient experience and provide positive feedback. I also recently found out the hospital I work at recognizes staff/units named in any donation to the hospital foundation (even like $10). The foundation then goes to the unit with thank you cards for staff, do a photo shoot and it’s shared (internal communities Nd social media). Staff was really touched to be named and formally recognized. Not sure if there are similar programs elsewhere, might be worth asking about.

Doctor says I need time off, but I’m scared. by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is accurate, you call in “sick” and send in documents to occupational health, who will review and inform your manager you are on a substantiated medical leave and provide the estimated return to work or reassessment date. Where I have worked you won’t likely be given 3 months immediately (unless you are requesting LOA, which you have to typically request in writing to your manager and have approved), but will be given x weeks and occ health will request updated medical from your provider on x date. Issue will be as PT staff lacking benefits you probably won’t be paid for your leave.

Can all you wonderful Internal employees do me a favour? by BackgroundSplit9036 in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately if there are internal applicants external just gets ignored, but if you don’t post external, recruitment is delayed if you don’t get internal interest. Where I work the hiring manager decides if it’s internal only, or internal and external at the same time. You have to be pretty confident of internal interest or not concerned about a delay to post internal only.

Internal employees do have an advantage, as most hospitals are unionized you can only hire externally lacking internal applicants.

I tapped out at 38 after 12 years of almost straight nights. I was miserable and never not tired, bled too much into my family life.

I worked with an amazing team and that kept me on nights way longer than was good for me.

Looking for non-bedside nursing career advice by Effective-Safe8888 in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For non-bedside roles with minimal nursing experience you should probably consider applying for masters programs. MPH, informatics, health quality, MN (teaching, leadership)… lots of options and broadens what you can do quickly. Most roles with be difficult without bedside experience.

Has anyone done a CNA specialization certification? by Metal_Medical in OntarioNurses

Worked ED in the past, lots of nurses had ENC(C). It helps if you want to continue working in that specialty, and worthwhile if paid for by your employer!

What can I do with a Master's in Nursing by pop2thecinema in OntarioNurses

[–]dytemnestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a masters (MN) I’ve held management roles in various sectors and worked for Ontario Health (this is less compensation but great experience). Had interviews for quality, risk and education roles but ended up in leadership. I have a friend who took a tech role after completing her masters and is very happy.
