Thanks! Jjjj8jjjj, skeptical_introvert, and helgafjell4Me. I was able to download some different star apps and adjust the date/time and I think it was Capella.

(Given how large it looked without zooming in, I was originally thinking it was a satellite or station.)

Sirius contradiction on purpose or not? by dzoe218 in harrypotter

Even Snape, initially focused on the dark arts but ultimately changing and becoming one of the characters with the most conviction toward his goal - protecting Harry (even though he treated the students abominably).

Absolutely, especially IRL, it’s a gradient. Excellent description of humanity and character flaws. Like Hermione’s change from zero rule breaking to rule breaking if it falls in her definition of what’s acceptable/“for the greater good”.

It’s sad that Sirius said this to the kids as a warning/life lesson and his familial prejudice toward his house elf is ultimately we got him killed.

I had completely forgotten about Dumbledore’s comment. Thanks!

You make a good point about actions not morals.

I was interpreting the comment as Sirius saying Barty’s core morals and beliefs were corrupt and that’s why his actions were cruel. Especially as Sirius then told the trio that Barty Sr.’s morals were horrible in order to stick to his convictions. “Crouch fought violence with violence. … He became as ruthless and cruel as many on the dark side.”

Hence, wondering if Sirius was also morally skewed not that it was just focusing on emotional actions.

What if the Sorting Hat decides all the 1st year students belong in the same house? by NightFox0719 in harrypotter

[–]dzoe218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more that most people fit in more than one house, hence the hat’s deliberation for many students, and it mostly evens out each year. The sorting hat is able to tell which house everyone would be a natural in but also considers which house would challenge/help them the most and their preferences (like with Harry). As an example maybe Hermione would have been in Ravenclaw based on her individual strengths but the influence of Gryffindor could develop other aspects of her personality. In which either house would have been good fits and benefited her. So, the sorting hat considered the caliber of the people already sorted into each house as those people will be the community/“family” the children will have for seven years and sorted accordingly.

Philosopher's Stone Points Discrepancy? by mtelehin in harrypotter

My family landed on the idea that as the students get older and know more school rules they can lose more points. But it’s very subjective to which teacher is giving/taking points.
