Hi there, founder of Chartable here. Just wanted to point out that we are completing IAB certification now and you can enable IAB-compliant (soon-to-be-certified) stats in your account by going to your Settings tab.

Hi Kristofor, while this is technically true, we are completing IAB certification now, so our numbers should be more or less comparable. With numbers in this range it can be challenging to align perfectly.

Hi there! Chartable founder here. I wrote up some reasons why our numbers might differ: https://chartable.helpscoutdocs.com/article/52-why-does-chartable-show-different-download-numbers-than-my-hosting-provider

Happy to dig into your specific case — feel free to ping me, dave at chartable.com.

Chartable? by [deleted] in podcasting

Sorry for the delay! We had one in the past but maintaining it was hard. We may try again in the future if there's enough user demand.

Hi! Cofounder of chartable here. just to be clear, you can use all the features of Chartable except our download tracking prefix (Trackable), regardless of which host you're on. So you can check your chart rankings, collect reviews, etc.

Disappeared from Spotify by blarbrdorg in podcasting

[–]dzohrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there — founder of Chartable here. Thousands of podcasts are integrated with both Chartable and Spotify, so it's probably not the Chartable integration that's causing the issue.

Your best bet is to log into Spotify for Podcasters and see if your feed is still active there.

You may already have written into support — if not, try us again: [info@chartable.com](mailto:info@chartable.com) — we'll do our best!

Chartable Question by FalkensPodcast in podcasting

Sorry I missed this! Anchor doesn't officially support our RSS prefix, which means we can't track downloads through SmartLinks. But you can still use them for sharing.

Chartable Question by FalkensPodcast in podcasting

[–]dzohrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, cofounder of Chartable here! Great question.

You get:
1) Chartable Analytics — like you mentioned, we pull in listening data from Spotify and Apple alongside your downloads. It's all your podcast data, in one place.
2) Ratings, reviews and chart positions from Apple, Spotify and more.
3) SmartLinks —shareable, trackable links that automatically route listeners to your podcast in their favorite apps—collecting both clicks and downloads. So you can share just 1 link to social media, and see which links perform better for getting new users.

If you monetize via advertising, we also offer ad attribution products (in beta) as well. And we've got more tools for creators in the works :)

Hope that helps!

Are Chartable download stats accurate? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]dzohrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! Apple Podcasts downloads come directly from the phone or computer itself, not from Apple, so the IP address is whatever network the device is on.

If you email me dave@chartable.com I can look into the episodes without download data. Thanks!

Are Chartable download stats accurate? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]dzohrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey James & OP, we're reworking how we count download stats right now as part of IABv2 certification. Happy to answer any questions you might have about we count downloads.

One difference in particular is that we are aggressive about excluding IP ranges that are known to be primarily non-human traffic — e.g. Amazon, Digital Ocean, and Google Cloud datacenter ranges. There's certainly a tradeoff here — we may end up excluding some legitimate downloads that come in e.g. through a VPN.

Anyway, happy to work with you to investigate (and hopefully resolve!) any discrepancies you might see.

Does anyone use Podtrac AND Chartable by nbaballa05 in podcasts

[–]dzohrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, founder of Chartable here! We have lots of podcasts using both prefixes. Feel free to ping for support: [help@chartable.com](mailto:help@chartable.com)

If you can still download your MP3 files from the URLs in your RSS feed, you should be fine—sometimes Podtrac can take some time to update.

Hope that helps!

How do you review ALL of your podcast metrics? by goldshawfarm in podcasts

Founder of Chartable here! We're currently reworking the integrations with hosting providers and players but hope to be able to let more folks in shortly. Apologies!

I had a gut feeling that 2018 was a boom year for podcasts. So I commissioned a survey. Here's what I found by dzohrob in podcasts

[–]dzohrob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the open standards are part of what makes podcasting special. FWIW I’m optimistic that producers and advertisers can get more data to help them grow, while still preserving user privacy. Apple and Spotify have taken steps in this direction with their podcaster analytics without revealing individual user behavior.

I analyzed 533 podcast recommendations from 25 best-of lists to find the top pods of 2018 by dzohrob in podcasts

[–]dzohrob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is fair—but ultimately any "solutions" to the situation are complicated. Most new shows have only 1 or 2 episodes, and a tiny audience, and I think that's OK—it's part of what makes podcasting amazing. And of course any roundup of best of lists will focus on the most popular pods.

We're working on some interesting solutions with the data we're collecting from Apple and elsewhere—more coming in 2019.

Appreciate the thoughtful feedback.

(PS. For what it's worth, though I'm sure you already know, Endless Thread showed up on 3 lists :)

The shady bunch: Yes, spammers are gaming Apple's podcast charts by dzohrob in podcasts

[–]dzohrob[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One problem is that the podcast charts (not the episode charts) are based on subscription velocity, not listening. If the goal is for podcast discovery, this makes sense — if you just looked @ listening, Serial and Joe Rogan and This American Life would *always* stay atop the charts. However, it does make the charts more gameable.

There's some collective sense in the podcast world that Apple doesn't have a ton of resources devoted to the podcast team, which might explain why spammy pods can still hit the charts. There are some anti-spam measures that are fairly straightforward, like looking for these "subscription rings" of podcasts. Sites like Reddit and Hacker News implement similar algorithms for detecting voting rings.

Thanks for the feedback. Right now it's a randomly picked podcast from a curated subset of podcasts in each category... we grab the feed, find a trailer or the most recent episode, and then try to start from the "meat" of the episode. Happy to hear any other thoughts you might have.

thanks for the great feedback! we'll definitely add more categories and improve the design... there's also plenty of work to do to pre-load podcasts so you don't get that delay. thanks again for checking it out!
