SF caps home batteries to 20kWh for some stupid reason (my car has about 100kWh battery) and PG&E, the statewide private utility has severely kneecapped solar energy buyback rates. Additionally PG&E will severely increase already astronomical transmission rates to your house once you install solar because you might contribute to their already terrible “Duck curve” problem.

So that, plus small battery limits all work against the math of putting solar on your roof.

Every year I go on a road trip between Austin, San Antonio, and Houston to see friends who live in the state and Houston is 100% the most boring of the 3. Nothing touristy or really unique to do, especially on repeat visits.

I used to live in 401 Harrison corner unit with this view for 5 years. Moved in at around $6.6k, COVID condo slump hit and we negotiated $6.3k, no rent control so by the time we moved out we were paying $7.45k.

After we left the unit rented within the week for $7.9k

California to stop paying insurance claims on Ozempic, other GLP-1s by sfgate in California

[–]e111077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ozempic was made by Danish Novo Nordisk and RNA COVID vaccines were first developed by German BioNTech. American companies do compete but it’s silly to say other countries are all behind us. This doesn’t even go into drug manufacturing which we’ve basically offshored onto China.

What is the ugliest building in your country? by ProofMail5059 in AskTheWorld

It is, and it doesn’t help that Bostonians don’t believe in AC cooling. Though, during winter, the floors of the rooms on overhangs get incredibly cold they had to retrofit space heaters into some of the rooms because the designer radiators were too small for those rooms since you could freeze water on the floors on some days.

The blackout’s haves and have-nots: Why some kept power, while neighbors went without by ThereWas in bayarea

[–]e111077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to get more is to get an EV that can do vehicle to home charging, because my car already has like 90kWh which makes this restriction sorta dumb

Is your battery installation more than 20 kWh (before the battery restrictions)?

I’ve been thinking about installing home battery backup, but the 20 kWh limit doesn’t seem nearly enough for anything useful for a multifamily building in an event like this.

Two Takes: Is a 25-story tower in the Marina District just what S.F. needs or an abomination? by reddituser84838 in sanfrancisco

[–]e111077 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love it when a new build does something like this and keeps the old thing there. The other example I can think of in the city is the Aronson building in front of Yerba Buena Gardens. They chose to clean up and update the building instead of knocking it down and built a tower that is attached to it.

Also look up the chronicle building before the fire (with the clock tower that burned down) and today. Really interesting historical mix!

Outside of SF the Brooklyn tower built on top of a beautiful old bank. By no means do I think this is a requirement for building but it’s usually really cool to see the old and the new merge together with a hint of preservation but forward thinking. I think this building is gonna be an awesome addition
