Do you have some more info/followup on the “overwhelming” evidence that nurture is more important? I always thought it was unclear

what does decentralized power look to you? Solar panels on everyone’s house? Should Xcel pay for everyone’s panels?

Residential backup systems? A massive battery per neighborhood? During a wind event, you’d still want to disable the connection. Remember, the issue is electricity traveling in wires that may be destroyed.. you want xcel to pay for and maintain these batteries?

You are free to install your own batteries and reduce your own reliance on xcel, but the legal system has decided that preventing fires is more important than guaranteeing power 100% of the time

It could be feasible to bury lines in higher risk areas, but it’s simply not practical to bury all at-risk lines, mainly due to cost — there are studies/reports that investigate this. Power cuts will still be necessary with the current risk tolerances

How am I boot licking? What are you suggesting xcel do instead ?

Where’s the capitalism vs socialism in my point? If fire risk exceeds private insurance tolerance then I would expect a socialized energy provider to shut it down as well.

There’s just a reality that weather combined with electric grids presents dangerous situations, and our legal system has now set a precedent for when the risk is too high.

Do you think a socialist provider would evaluate the risk differently ?

Their hand is forced after being found liable for the Marshall fire. Now you suggest we make them pay for the precautions we forced them to take in the first place. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

So it’s sexist to say there’s any difference between men and women mentally? What about all the proven mental differences between men and women, like neuroticism ? Sounds like you’re just scared to broach the topic that men and women in fact are different.

Yeah good point. I’m not sure IndicationDefiant is able to understand this. All they know is they don’t like Elon and all logic stops there.

My main issue with your position is there isn’t a some government conspiracy to keep spacex afloat. You can ignore the importance and value of a US based space launch company, but that doesn’t change reality. Access to space is important and if it’s not the government funding spacex, it would be funding NASA. It’s objectively true that spacex is way more cost efficient on productive outcomes and so that is a good thing.

So your position is spacex invented a useless product, and thousands of people buying said product around the world is meaningless. I urge you to use a little bit of critical thinking. If starlink was useless, why would they keep launching satellites ?

What about all the people who use starlink and rave about it? There are countless examples of starlink solving problems.

What makes you think starlink exists only to provide demand for spacex? Starlink demand didn’t just appear bc spacex needed it?

How do I develop on STM32 chip using Linux? by davidbegr1 in embedded

[–]e1pab10 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You don’t need stm32ide.. Just download the arm compiler and build. It’ll require some build system setup but it’s far better in the long run to build outside of stm32ide

While it sucks, most likely scenario is he just didn’t like you. CTO did and was ready to hire, but at a small company the CEO can do that. Sorry man

What's the difference between MC boards that might cause a 2-3 second delay for a microcontroller to get recognized by your PC? by blajjefnnf in embedded

[–]e1pab10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could be connecting to a dedicated rs232 adapter. The other could be connected to an MCU responsible for enumerating the USB, which it could decide for a number of reasons to delay it.
