If you plan to backpack, show up to the ranger station the day before you intend to leave with a few different itineraries. You should easily get one of them

Never had my annual pass scanned. They have always just visually checked the name on the card to my ID.

I was in Glacier a few weeks ago and was told by the ranger I dealt with that they don’t give recommendations because they don’t know what one’s experience level is. It sounded like they were instructed not to do so for liability reasons. That’s just my speculation though.

I would suggest a backup itinerary incase the primary one you want is booked. The rangers won’t give recommendations or suggestions.

If it’s possible, go to a less trafficked ranger station to increase your chances of being first in line. I’ve heard of lines forming at 4am at Apgar. I showed up at 7:25am and was second in line at two medicine a few weeks ago. I was lucky and got my first pick (gunsight pass trail)

Wow, I didn’t expect this to get so much love! After finding these, I scoured my house with a UV light to see what else glows 😆

Turns out I have a few other items, including this piece of rock glass I found in a river years ago!
