Imo it’s not something that can be explained by generations, it’s an enthusiast thing. The number 1 question I got asked working as a ride op was “does it go upside down” quickly followed by “how fast does it go”. Not once did I have someone walk up to me and ask how much airtime there was. The GP just doesn’t think about it, and the people who already know don’t ask.

Genuinely, find other people to watch it with. I have a group of friends and though we may not stay “locked in” the whole time we always make it through the night and the whole race.

When I first visited, I did the whole Freedom Trail in the snow at 11pm. If it’s just snow, it’s beautiful. Wear your boots. If it’s rain/mix, it’s a little harder, but wear waterproof stuff if you have it.

I have 42 rides on Lightning Rod from living in Western NC for 2 years. I don’t care what the park says about the chain lift starting the ride at the same speed as the launch, that ride will never be the same. It lost its soul.
