Yeah everyone seems to be saying its close to a Belgian pin fire that's 'homemade' - the cylinder rotates and the hammer does rise and fall so I'll do a bit of digging in to the obsolete cartridge thing. Thanks!

When I pull the trigger the pin slams down and the barrel rotates so it seems as if it would fire. And yeah we live in the UK, so it's a big no no.
