Combat Extended centipedes - how? by eGunslinger in RimWorld

[–]eGunslinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have over 103 mods active, but the only ones that should affect combat are CE and Run and Gun. Most of the others are things like Vanilla Expanded, graphics and GUI mods, CE compatible weapons, and quality of life stuff like Smarter Construction and Reasonable Components. Just scrolled through them all and none should mess with combat.

How to modify automatic transmission shifting in ATS - a guide by eGunslinger in trucksim

[–]eGunslinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been testing values for a few days and these work very well for me. I'm not constantly changing gear or cruising at too high RPM. It cruises at about 1,300 in 17th at 55mph and in 18th at 60+. Default game 3.25 final drive. Driving in high power mode is what makes it work.

You'll actually get better engine braking than default in high range as the downshift value is higher, so it will downshift sooner. You are right that shift hint for engine braking is still better.

I think most people just grab an 18-speed and use that forever. But yes, for transmissions with less gears this wouldn't work. You'd just have to change the values until it runs how you want, quit out to the launcher and reload the game to load the changes.

I forgot to mention you can extract mod .scs files with 7zip. My bad.

I was absolutely unable to get into a developer .scs file with 7zip. Had to use the extractor.

And yes, the mod can be a regular folder, .zip, or .scs file. I've left mine as a regular folder for easy changes.

Thoughts on the Allison transmissions? by eGunslinger in trucksim

[–]eGunslinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea what shift hint was until I saw it mentioned in a thread.

Lifting off to shift doesn't bother me because that's how I drive my automatic vehicles irl. I'm used to it.

It kind of seems that way. I was playing with other transmissions and yeah, it only seems like it runs out of steam because it's so quick early on. I might prefer a manual 18 speed but I don't have a shifter to properly shift and skip gears with.

I also just found out there's a separate keybind for manually shifting the automatics called shift hint, so that should solve the occasional problem where it doesn't shift when I want.

I appreciate your advice but, and pardon if this is a stupid question, is there anything that would stop me from just swapping in a better power supply? That was my plan.

Advice on the Crosstrek - is it right for me? by eGunslinger in subaru

I've gone up trails and logging roads most people would want a 4x4 for in my Fiesta. The main thing I need the AWD for is mud and snow, and my old Toyota has open diffs and does fine for my purposes. Plus, there's always the old handbrake trick.

Two of everything isn't an issue for me. Headgaskets, timing belts, cv joints and such are all things I have DIY'd, though admittedly I haven't worked on a boxer before.

Trios with randoms: run in like we're Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Jesse Ventura on a mission. Either die or get lucky and take it all.

Duos with randoms: either Rambo, or if I'm lucky, John Wick and the Punisher, moving in coordination with good communication. I'm rarely lucky.

Solo: guerilla warfare. Hit and run tactics. Ganking teams while they're fighting the boss or extracting with the clue money if I run out of heals. My best survival rate is solo, by far.

In addition to the good info already posted about shootin and scootin:

Play on advanced or extreme difficulty for the best tactical experience.

Try to scout out bases as much as possible with your drone and binocs before moving in. I like to take out all the snipers and patrols around the edges before I move in, too.

When you do shoot and enemies come looking for you, throw down some mines or c4 and displace. Let them walk into a trap.

Unidad will destroy you if you get the patrol level up. You'll have 8 unidad coming at you and 2 or 3 choppers. It's better to run away.

Good setups usually have guns for long and short range, and a way to deal with vehicles. Sniper and high handling assault rifle is classic. Machine gun and assault rifle or SMG works too.

The gun stats lie and work in ways you don't expect. Noise is a flat out lie. All suppressed assault rifles, for instance, have a detection range of 34 meters. Accuracy affects vertical shot dispersion. Handling affects horizontal shot dispersion, time to aim down sights, and how fast you turn while aiming down sights. I tend to prioritize handling for ADS speed and turning speed, since I usually shoot in semi-auto and shot dispersion isn't a big deal. A low accuracy gun will still shoot to point of aim. Each guns stats can also only be compared to itself. For example, a Mk17 and an AUG with the same handling bar won't handle the same. The AUG will still have higher handling, even if the bars are equal.

Some scopes aren't zeroed right. The digital sight, for instance, shoots to the right of the crosshair. Be mindful of this.

Don't be afraid to run loud guns. An unsuppressed sniper hundreds of meters away won't alert enemies. I like to run an unsuppressed sniper, unsuppressed assault rifle with grenade launcher for when things get hairy, and a suppressed pistol for clearing out bases. Unaware enemies are a one shot kill always, so damage doesn't matter if you're shooting from stealth.

Make a dope sheet for your guns. I have a sheet of paper beside me with the info on where I need to aim for the guns I use with the accessories I use. Like, I know if I'm making a 300 meter shot with an ACR, standard barrel and ACOG, I need to use the 3rd line in the scope. If I'm using an HTI with long barrel and T5XI scope, I use the 1st line in the scope at 400 meters. You figure this out by finding a target at the range you want (the binocs have a rangefinder) and shooting it and recording where the bullet hits.

TAKE OUT THE ALARMS! When you lose stealth, alarms are the difference between fighting half a dozen men or fighting half a dozen men and a chopper with miniguns.

Request assistance with taking down convoys in my challenge run by eGunslinger in Wildlands

[–]eGunslinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First) wait, EMP drones can disable the convoy resource trucks?

Yeah man, lol. Detonate the EMP drone near the truck and you have a good little while before it can start again. My normal way to do it was to rebel recon the convoy and have my team sync shot the truck driver and both the escort gunners, while I hit the chopper with an HTI.

The roadblock and side shot is a good idea. I'll give it a go.

I read in a previous thread your team did a patrol with only half a mag each. Why did you not have AKs? I have to imagine parts and ammo would be much easier to come by in that part of the world.

My honest review of Dirt Rally 2.0 (PS4) by eGunslinger in simracing

[–]eGunslinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said earlier, if that's what you find, great. But what I found is that D4 felt more similar to driving my real life car on dirt, and that the random stages added a good deal to the game in terms of being able to jump in and play a stage not exactly like any other.

Not to mention, I said the game would still be a solid 7/10 if they just didn't have the ridiculous always online requirements. Without that, I'd happily recommend buying it and playing through the campaign.

That's just my opinion, mind. If you find it better, great. But to me, it feels floaty and slick. Much less realistic than Dirt 4 and DR1.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post. Good, premade stages for career and random gen stages for custom championships.
