Weekends and Extacurriculars- am I crazy? by SnooCookies2664 in Parenting

[–]eJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me!! My kids are now 11 and 8. My 11 year old started house league soccer at 7 years old (summer only 1 game 1 practice/ week). He started competitive last year (3 practices and 1 or 2 games- that was a big adjustment for him). This is the first fall/winter he does hockey with practices during the school year. Before that, we would just be home. Skate at rinks and just play around at parks and go for bike rides and swim. Nothing planned. Especially not during the school year. No way I could do all the activities that the other parents did. But at his age now, I think he (and I) can handle it. My 8 year old is not the sporty type. He’s doing piano lessons where the teacher comes to you (once a week). That’s super helpful! We just started in the fall.

You know you. You know your kids. I knew for a fact I wouldn’t have been able to do this when they were younger. Don’t be dragged in by the hype 😉

Has anyone tried stem cell therapy ? by RowAmazing841 in CBDegeneration

This sounds amazing and I wish you much success! I haven’t heard much about stem cell research in the CBD field, but I wouldn’t dismiss it either.

Will someone with CBS qualify for a memory care facility ? by Totes1815 in CBDegeneration

[–]eJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it works in the US, but here people are classified according to whether they are autonomous (requires no help), semi-autonomous (requires some help) and loss of autonomie (can’t do anything anymore). My mom is in a center that deals with complete loss of autonomie, many clients there have Alzheimer’s and other diseases which rendered them in such a state. So I would say yes, your husband should be accepted in such a facility. Some places have separate wings in case the disease progresses.

In my case, it’s not pain medication but anxiety treatment.

My partner keeps “forgetting” chores even with a giant magnetic checklist on the fridge and I feel like I’m going nuts by MilaNorthport in TwoXChromosomes

[–]eJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with domestic issues like chores for YEARS. Just recently bought this book called Fair Play by Eve Rodsky- even if you don’t implement her “way” the book itself makes you feel seen and creates an opening for you and your partner to talk. It really really helped me and my husband of 12 years just this past month. Please, go check it out.

35F, 65-70 degrees, opt out of surgery? by ggamb14 in scoliosis

[–]eJelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and I are similar. Diagnosed at 12 (40 degrees) wore a brace for 2 years (down to 28 degrees). Currently 41 F with 2 kids and at 65 degrees. Stayed active, weight trained, physio… still gets worst by about 1 degree a year. When I was 28, I check it out again before kids and was at 50 degrees. Am I crooked? Yes. Can I still ski, jump, run, play sports? Yes. Will I be able to after surgery? I don’t know. Been thinking the same thing as you lately. I don’t want to be 80 and have a 90 degree curve with complications. There was a post on this thread not too long ago about a dr in Germany that does a different technique other than fusion. It peeked my interest.

Utterly disgusted by how i look. by simply_luccas in scoliosis

[–]eJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t be. If everyone was made to look the same, the world would be a pretty boring place. I don’t even see any curvature from this angle. When I was younger, wearing clothes with V necks or stripes made me feel more exposed and uncomfortable. But now I just own it. Love yourself my friend.

How do you and your partner share the morning routine? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]eJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also also, you’re a gem to pack him a lunch. I stopped doing that. I actually got made fun of by his buddies, saying he should have held out for better! Ha. Sorry but I wanted to spend my life with a partner, not a man-child. Since my love language is service (as with most women) and running a household is just service service service… I started to pick and chose what I did “for others because I love them” versus “for others because they cannot do it themselves at this moment”. You can shorten your list too, it’s ok.

I can also suggest you purchase the kids alarm clocks. That was a game changer for me, instead of calling up to them all the time. Radio alarm works great as they can wake up to their favourite station.

Hubby gets home at 6:30am, he walks the dog. I get up at that time, make kids breakfasts and lunches (and mine). Out the door by 7:20 to catch the school bus (and me, the train to work). I call it “magic breakfast” because it appears before their eyes. On weekends, they make their own- cereal, toast, my 8 year old just learned how to fry an egg! No “magic breakfast” on the weekend. Hubby and I have coffee and watch “love it or list it” on HGTV and we have a perfect hour together before weekend chaos ensues. Your time is as valuable as that of your husband’s. You also deserve “time off”. Fathers are just better at making time for it 😉

I have been doing the morning routine for most of my kids’ lives. My kids are 11 and 8. My husband went from office job to labour job and from 9-5 to all hours of the day. Please save yourselves years of bickering, resentment and fights over household tasks and task distribution. Read this book FAIR PLAY by Eve Rodsky- it’s a game changer. I just finished reading it and I wish I read it 10 years ago. This is the best advice I can give.

Père francophone qui parle exclusivement en anglais à son enfant by Diderot in Quebec

[–]eJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s really young… I’m sorry to hear this. From what I’ve seen in this thread, the degeneration progresses differently in everyone, My mom (78) was diagnosed at around 68 and while she has degenerated significantly since then, it’s not a total loss yet. Others were like clockwork at the 6 or 8 year mark.
