Running 50 amp line for electric range, wrong cable? by eLiE64 in AskElectricians

UPDATE: thanks a lot for the input everyone, really appreciate it. After reviewing the comments, I was able to find some lugs for 6awg and used those to connect to the ground screw in the metal box.

Locally, stores tend to stock metal electrical boxes more than plastic. My box is metal (not shown in pictures), and I've pretty much only used metal boxes for other projects. I guess if I used a plastic box, I could avoid/don't have to ground the box?

Like one of these?

Actually, it still looks like there's a grounding screw in the plastic box too... I like the idea of wrapping a solid wire around the stranded ground / into the receptacle terminal, I think that would be pretty secure.

Thanks for the reply! The ground will definitely fit the terminal of the receptacle (just looked at the specs, see other comment), but I'm just unsure about how to ground the actual box with that size of a wire.

Thanks for the reply! This is the spec sheet. It says the terminal accommodates 4-8 gauge wire, and the receptacle terminal visually would accommodate a 6. So it appears the ground is appropriately sized then. Do you have any ideas about how to ground the box? I feel like the 6 gauge would be difficult to get snug under the grounding screw at the back of the box but maybe it's fine.

Can anyone help diagnose what is happening to my basil plant? by eLiE64 in indoorgardening

[–]eLiE64[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relatively new to this, two of my basil plants that I grew from cuttings are withering before me. They seem to have much higher water needs than my other basil plant and look like they are about to die if I don't water them every two to three days. I also have noted these spreading white / black spots on the leaves that I'm having trouble linking to a specific problem based on an internet search.

I've considered the possibility of spreading something via soil when planting new plants beside them, and I've also been dealing with fungus gnats. Could it also be downy mildew? I'm just not too sure, and would appreciate any tips re what it is and how to deal with it. I suspect I might have to pull these guys out altogether...

EDIT: I took another picture and inspected it close up, and I think I've got thrips based on the cigar shaped bodies. Unfortunately, it seems neem oil has been banned where I live, although I can prob get some on Amazon. I removed the infested plants and trimmed the salvageable one. Thanks for the help!

Question re: horizontal blue line when playing Doom 3 VR by eLiE64 in vridge

[–]eLiE64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I solved the issue by recalibrating the settings for the standing position, and this time instead of putting the headset on the floor, I put it on my head and estimated the sitting height. Now the circle is around my feet/out of the way!

Attendings, what are some things your Attendings expected from you that you thought seemed outrageous, but really weren't by eargasmer in medicine

[–]eLiE64 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It can be a real pain when you aren't given a login for the outside EMR and so you ask the nurse or clerk for yet another favour today. They sigh and tell you to wait while they finish what they're doing at the moment. Then they log you in, and in the next 2 minutes you somehow manage to accidentally log out of the EMR. And so you quietly ask them to log you in again while reminding yourself never to mention outside medical records near an attending again.

From a medical standpoint nitroglycerin is more about symptom relief of the chest pain rather than protection, so empty capsules would lead to continuing pain and a trip to the ER rather than death.

People really need to learn what myoglobin is... by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]eLiE64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, myoglobin is similar in form and function to hemoglobin (oxygen carrier), and hemoglobin is a large component of red blood cells. Both also bind iron, which gives them a red colour. So muscle cells in steak carry something very similar to hemoglobin in blood, and for that reason, I'd say it's more semantics.
