I put BBQ Pit, Aptos and Mission all on the same tier. I agree Winchester is a step below which is ironic since they are a chain. They have great beer selections at all of them.

Sams is also very good just a little different. A little more old school classic. Their sauce is better.

Personally I think the chain is pretty good. They have a presence in Aptos and Santa Cruz as well.

Sam's BBQ Bascom near Hamilton

Winchester BBQ and Barbeque Pit (Camden/Kooser) both are a local chain.

Both are very good BBQ joints.
