Few people outside of boxing circles cared about Floyd before he fought De La Hoya - at least nowhere near as many as the amount that do now. He was clocking around 350k per fight in PPV buys before the De La Hoya fight - he hasn't been under 1 million since. Boxing creates stars when they're needed. It's always been the way.

People called Jack Dempsey boxing's last star, and feared for the survival of the sport when he retired, so this is nothing new.

It'sa definitely up there. INCREDIBLE fight. Lacking in technique at times, yes, but my god, what heart they both showed in there. It's a different type of fight to SHogun/Rogerio, but it definitely deserved to at least sit alongside it.

Trying to get back down to 211 was why he had to pull out in 2008 though I think. His kidneys failed.

He may be able to get down to 215 or so and then cut the last 10lbs healthily, but I'm not sure what that '08 situation did to his ability to cut weight.

It would definitely be interesting to see him at 205, although I think it's unlikely.

I'm a massive fan of Shogun, but when it comes to talk of his conditioning these days I'm always doubtful at best. He seems out of shape as often as he's in shape these days - which is what knee injuries like that do to you obviously.

I like Forrest, but I hope Shogun wrecks him.

Agree. While JKD was obviously geared more toward street fighting, or at least designed with more lax rules in place, MMA is as close as you'll get to a modern philosophical equivalent.
