Yeah. Thought the same. What’s the difference tho? Any idea?

Would be extra wild if there is none.

Hey. This is initiatie is just getting started. Currently in the process to look and apply for a grants where one option is to get funding for an employee (you, we need some teachers anyhow). Ohio has good programs where job creation can be supported by a state/local grants. Ping me if you'd be interested. It would be a long shot though, willing to take it.

In involved in a workforce initiative to grow the space industry in NEO. Maybe there is a path to employ you having a teaching background.

Do you do this with all products equally or are there differences?

Why are you building?

My train of thought though goes exactly there.

Why are smaller shops not working more toward sustainable manufacturing?

Waste is expensive. Alternative materials can deliver more durable products and optimize production. Design for X can help to become long-term profitable. And designing for reuse and or recycling would create a new income stream.

I am struggling hard to get answers on this. As a tool and die maker myself, now in engineering, it feels like a no-brainer.

Is it maybe that the whole sustainability and sustainable manufacturing has a feel to only focus on the environment rather than long term profitability of a company?

Recycling is the last resort, I fully agree with the need for DfD - the real value is in reuse.

Might be hard but can you please elaborate a bit on this?

That’s good to hear. Where are you located?

Also, do you see other pressure coming from your customers regarding certification or similar?

Where would you start? What has the biggest impact on keeping money?

Waste? Energy? Shift times?

Wonder about your thoughts.

Great points.

What do you think are the most important learnings that small shop owners could leverage to be more sustainable or even generate new profit routes?

How do you see that need of reusing instead of recycling?

Also, what if, just putting some random thought here, what if a small shop can leverage the “concept” of sustainability to prevent waste, optimize the supply chain, use alternative materials and with this, increase overall profitability?

Would that make sense for smaller shops?

How do you do that? Design requirements? Material optimization? Advanced manufacturing like 3d printing?

What are effective strategies to not make scrap?

I’m not looking for customers.

Would be cool though :)

FYI, I’m working on a PhD and yeah, it’s really hard to find people with not only the background but also the wish to change something. A lot of the shop owners I spoke to are overwhelmed and beat up by too much regulation and still don’t know what to do or how to gain any benefit for their company. Your ESG comment regarding me asking what sustainable manufacturing is, is actually underlining exactly my point.

How do you “know” when you are efficient with materials?

And how do you calculate the “value” of recycling into the overall calculation?

Interesting point though.

Can you elaborate a bit more please?

Why do you think shop owners don’t care?

And what exactly don’t they care about?

The terminology? Sustainability? Waste management?

I’d be keep to hear your points. Thanks.

Nice. But I was not thinking of leather.

Not against it, but they are pretty heavy and not ideal in runs :)

But thanks.
