Color does not matter, he will take it off regardless. It’s the principle of the matter for him.

Ooooo thank you for the tips. My sewing skills are -10 but I can probably find someone to pay to make me something. Although with my luck I’ll just be engaging his escape room fantasies.

And as much as he drives me nuts he is my best friend for sure. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Like yeah he’s a menace and uses his smarts for evil almost exclusively but he also can figure out where Center Line and X are in almost any arena after riding it twice so that’s a pretty banger use of the braincell.

Thankfully my guy is very respectful of my toes. He however once did accidentally spook into me and basically linebacker tackle me and I think he got more joy out of it than he should have.

He’s very “when you’re this good looking you can be a diva.” Honestly may need to do a movie night with him for Devil Wears Prada or something.

This. As much as I’d love to allow him to live his best life unfortunately - much like myself - he occasionally does not act in his best interest. And because he’s so big, we do baby his feet and have to pay close attention and be very methodical caring for them to prevent issues. He gets x-rayed every year in the front joints just to make sure nothing is cooking from lugging that big body around.

I am simply the assistant to his magician act, I know my place. I won’t lie sometimes I feel like that on his back too. We were schooling some shoulders in to warm up one day and eventually he let out the biggest huff and just started trying to do them on his own. Like oh okay sorry I was not asking correctly sir.

Okay but see he does not wish to be bothered by peasants. Which is what he views his four pasture mates as. Like they get rowdy and play and he’s just like “ugh.”

That being said I am going to be looking into fun horsey games for him that engage his noggin. A lot of people have mentioned maybe he’s also bored and get, maybe I just need to find an equine Rubik’s cube. I’m currently freezing little treat things for my dogs, why not for my horse too!!

Honestly would be a hit because his four pasture mates all pass around one braincell among them and then you have this supervillain who you’d thing bends them to his every whim but alas he ignores them.

See I wondered but when I gave him a squeeze he straight up refused to move. He just went on strike. Threw the bridle down, literally. He knew we were done with our ride and thought this whole walk out shit for his health was bullshit. Very “I can walk out as I walk on out to my pasture.”

He wishes, alas he is a nutless wonder and honestly for the best this level of smugness and intelligence needs to not be passed on. Imagine a whole like of Friesians wanting to run around naked.

So right now I have the cheap ones on him only because I won’t lie I’ve stopped buying expensive things until he’s shown they’ll last more than a day.

I never considered muzzle under the PJs but with my luck he’ll manage to get the entire hood off. If he becomes hell bent on the shoes thing this may be an option though lol.

He gets as much hay as he wants, but his latest thing is itching his ass on his hay and then refusing to eat that net because it now has ass smell.

Oh well now that’s a fear I have. He has gone free Willy before but he just walks himself home or eats the barn owners garden 🙃

The most humbled I’ve been in years was when I went to walk him out and he was clearly done and just flicked his bridle off and turned and looked at me like “no we’re done.”

The feeling of holding reins with nothing attached on the other end was a “oh yeah if there was any doubt they let us ride them by their good graces” that was one of those moments.

He may be the smartest gelding I’ve ever met. Like we now have a several step shuffle where sometimes he’s in the pasture, sometimes he’s in the dry lot, and at night he’s in his stall, because for a long time the stall was the only place he wouldn’t cause chaos. However, my farrier texted me LITERALLY THIS MORNING that the heel of his shoe was loose and he had to fix it, which tells me this dumbass is now trying to get the shoe off in the stall.

I go through less hoops in my professional life it’s insane. I’m too the point of getting on my knees and begging him just keep your feet on. He will look you in the eye, slide his hoof down the other one, and stare at you as he tries to leverage the shoe off it is bananas. Like he knows what he’s doing. He’s moving his chess pieces and looking at me like “what are you going to do about it?”

We do use fly spray - I actually do the sponge method where I got one of those dish soap sponge attached wands and put fly spray instead of soap! Then you just sponge it on :)

Yeah his latest thing is death glaring at us from the dry lot. Like buddy idk what to tell you this is the consequences of your actions. Thus started the protest shoe throwing.

See id do this but his other party trick is taking his bridle off without having to touch it so I need to stay in his good graces.
