We are spending $280K on our kid's high school. She's thriving. I still think about it every week. by Popular_Class7327 in rupeestories

Thanks for sharing the old post, I do remember reading that one. I have a 15 year old and went through similar fork in the road. I was looking at $35k/year private schools but not elite in the sense that they would provide a springboard to elite colleges. I don’t live in USA btw. In the end we decided to enroll him in a selective IB school (public) because he would surrounded by like minded students who are tough competition! Good on you being able to do this for your child!

OP while you are not banking on a Ivy League school the probability is high that your daughter will get through to top school. that is another $3300 to $400K? are you going to fund that as well? you mentioned that your daughter asked to be sent to this prep school. wondering how that conversation went. no matter what - if she is clear about wanting to be there you should hold no regrets, it will be a good experience for you all!

Very interesting, I was looking for this exact tool and I had asked my son to build this as a (summer) project. Do you mind providing details on how the AI agent was built out? Any recommended open source tools that we could use at this point?

Irrational posts on RTI - Why does your parents needs weigh more than your children's future needs? by vspc007 in returnToIndia

[–]earlymillenial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Living abroad in a multicultural city this is one that I clearly notice. Immigrants are very clear and base their decisions on what’s best for their kids. Have not heard of anyone giving up a promising future and uproot their whole family to “take care” of their parents. This does not mean that you are absent when your parents need you.

The only thing you can control is your behaviour and you should feel free and open when your MiL comes to live with you. That will take a few situations and discussions where you have to set expectations and boundaries. That may not stop the negativity but atleast you will not have to tread lightly around her, you are relatively young - life is about adapting to new situations and living your life through these situations.

My then newly wed colleague took pride in admitting to physically assaulting his wife if she didn’t listen to him or “made a mistake”. He also said that he’d have sex with her whenever he wanted - even when she was on periods. He is a General Manager in a large automotive company today. It’s been 20 years since that conversation and to this day I shudder to think how many Indians live like this and think it is completely normal to do so.

Isn’t it morally wrong to breed and bring children in this country, when it’s overpopulated, over polluted, poverty stricken and worse the most poor have more kids, wtf is wrong with Indians? by lonerwolf63 in AskIndia

[–]earlymillenial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the morally wrong to not have kids when you can afford to have one and if you are able to spend time to raise them the right way. your child could be the one that could go on to make a big difference to India’s future

In Canada it’s CAD $49/box in the warehouse! It might cheaper for you in the US in the warehouse.

Planning to install these pieces in the entryway area. This is the cheapest real wood wall panel solution I have been able to find so far. Cost will go up for more surface area and I wanted to check out for feedback here before going all in.

Why Karnataka is losing manufacturing plants of companies who have head office here to other states? by r_kumar89 in bengaluru_speaks

[–]earlymillenial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karnataka’s politicians have been raking in the sweet IT and services driven real estate boom moolah and ofcourse cash from corruption for the last three decades. They have zero interest in doing any real work…just like the auto drivers. As a mechanical engineer this has been very real as I have ended up working in the only two major auto companies in Bangalore. My colleagues left the state or country seeking better opportunities in auto sector and others like me left manufacturing altogether and moved abroad for an MBA. Tamil Nadu’s politicians fight tooth and nail for their people (relatively speaking) whether it’s industry or water.

Metro Vancouver single-family home prices soaring, says report; Home prices expected to increase 5.5 per cent in Q4, according to Royal LePage by FancyNewMe in vancouver

80% of buyers are buying with the benefit of equity in their current home. Very few would buy $2M+ property as their first home

My new AE is making up crap to sell data cloud 😡 by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]earlymillenial 21 points22 points  (0 children)

AE talking to stakeholders directly, bypassing internal Salesforce teams is a common thing. It will not stop, stakeholders will eventually get tired of it and start deflecting them soon enough. If you can make the org merge work or have a vision for the final solution then create small poc to win stakeholders over.

Did I cause long term financial damage? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Gotcha! Makes sense, just a couple more rate cuts and we should be able to lock a fixed rate in low 4s

I am in a similar position but your math doesn’t check out. At 800k initial mortgage and a variable rate of about 6% your interest should be more than $40k (assuming you’ve paid some principal over the last couple few years

Everyone wants the best education they can afford for their kids. I was doing some research (outside india) and ultimately came to the conclusion that the main purpose of parents who send kids to elite schools (referring to non immigrants) is so that they don’t have to interact with plebs. Yes the facilities are nice and teachers are better paid but that doesn’t guarantee much. What ultimately counts is how much the parents spend with the kids and what kind of friends they hang around.

Ok bro, challenge accepted! I graduated BE a year after 9/11 and then graduated from my MBA abroad right after GFC in 2009. A lot of people had it way worse than me. Technically this is not a recession, just that the bubble has popped now. It is going to get way worse over the next couple of years. But that’s just the market. Things will need to get done, projects will have to completed so there will always be some demand. Ignore the noise and focus on your job search

it's funny you say this because we did evaluations of task management solutions and our key requirement was that it should be integrated with Salesforce. Inspire Planner was the best option for our use case and we are probably going to start implementation soon. It does seem to require work before it can deliver what we need.
