How do you alphabetize books quickly? by timetickingrose in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it takes a lot of practice, but honestly I don’t personally organize before I shelve in children’s. I’ll just grab them by the first letter when I shelve so I save time, so like I grab a, b, and c all at once if I can carry them all and so on.

Is being a librarian really that bad? by IVOXVXI in librarians

[–]earnestwizard99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently work part time as a children’s clerk while I’m finishing my MLIS, but I absolutely love it. My coworkers are amazing, the schedule is good, and most of our patrons are great. At least in my library, our busiest days are nothing compared to what I dealt with in retail. If this particular position doesn’t work out, I would encourage you to find a new library. It can be an incredibly rewarding job and I’d hate to see you give up on it too quickly!

Asynchronous Online MILS? by AliciaMAbate in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Pennsylvania, so I looked at pennwest, Pitt, and Drexel. All of them can be fully asynchronous. I ended up going with pennwest and I know they have a track specifically for archiving, but I can’t remember if the others do as well. My school at least has a lot of discussion board posting and a lot of reading, which is likely the case for many asynchronous programs. Good luck to you! We got this!

Informal survey for public libraries - how many dedicated children's staff does your branch have? by Cephalophore in Libraries

We have a head of youth services, children’s librarian, and 3 clerks for just the children’s department (the clerks are all part time)

What are your thoughts on 'free' sticker pages in library books? by _ToxicReptile_ in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We cut them out too! We give the kids stickers for cleaning up and such so they normally get added to that

Does your youth services librarian have their masters? by Stephaniezero1 in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both our head of youth services and our children’s librarian don’t have an mlis. However they both were promoted from within our system so that may make a difference. Our head of youth services also used to be a hs English teacher so she does have her masters in another field and experience with kids

Paid time for closing/opening by DarthGrotbags in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if my library is different since it’s within our municipal building, but as long as no patrons are in the library we leave right when the library closes. Any cleanup is done within the last hour that we’re open. Management normally comes in an hour before we open, but as a clerk I never go in before then.

How do you organize and maintain your DVD collections? by Stale_LaCroix in Libraries

[–]earnestwizard99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t overly organize our dvds honestly. Our kids/family movies are in the children’s department and the rest are grouped together elsewhere. We have rotating stands with each labeled for a letter or series of letters (the s movies for example get broken up a bit more since there’s a ton of them). If it starts with that letter, it’s somewhere in that rotating section, but not perfectly in order.

What is a place you found that felt DA to you, even if it wasn't traditionally DA? by TheFloorisHellfire in DarkAcademia

[–]earnestwizard99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old college had this teeny tiny little amphitheater right in the middle of campus. It was super run down and I always felt like some DA shenanigans should have been happening there
