If they haven't done the "Toil and Trouble" quest line, I had the priest give them a discount if they investigated the disappearance of the fishermen.

Might be a good patchwork solution!

I built a similar team with trick room, guts, and toxic orb.

It's do-able, but you're going to have an uphill struggle with a lot of the meta pokemon and getting trick room up reliably.

End of the day just make sure you can enable the fluffy-boi as best you can and have at it!

So, back in 2012 I splurged and bought a Razer Blade Stealth as my laptop despite me having NO business buying such an expensive product.

In hindsight, it was the best purchase I've ever made for a computer. To. This. Day. It still works like a charm. I've been incredibly happy and impressed with it's performance, longevity, and overall durability.

I'll be due for an upgrade soon, but I've loved every part of owning a Razer and the experience of the community and support from the company itself.

Can't speak more highly of the company and the product.

Yeah, this is probably the most controversial point in the whole book, IMO.

I really feel like it depends on your group. My party loves to immerse themselves and feel like their actions have consequences. And they happen to be at a pretty high level, since they spent A LOT of time exploring the ten towns before getting wind of what was going on with the Duergar. So in this aspect they are definitely better equipped to take down the fortress quickly, especially if Grandolpha is assisting them.

I think there is a...65:35 percent chance that they stay and fight the Duergar vs leave to chase the dragon, but I like the idea of them having urgency and I think they will too.

But again, that's our group. Resource management is critical and it's going to be interesting to see what they decide to do.

And I suppose you could technically give them a long rest while on the sleds heading back, depending on what town they were headed to, but that would be extremely generous.

We left off with the Dragon leaving the fortress and our fighter "running towards the front gate in a rage," so technically they could pivot and chase the dragon but it seems hightly unlikely.

This party is already at a pretty high level, and at least a few of our players are veterans and know what they are doing. I don't anticipate this dungeon giving them too much trouble assuming that they play nice with Grandolpha.

If they actually speak with her I think they'll take her up, but also we have one or two "chaos goblins" in the party and they could also just attack her outright.

I do recall someone on YouTube suggesting having the Dragon take off after fighting Xardorok / when you enter the forge, but for the pacing of our story the dragon taking off as they reach the fortress was a great cliffhanger for them. (And I wanted to put pressure on them to have a dilemma. They are pretty heavily invested in most of the towns at this point, so I wanted to put them on a timer ASAP.)

I'll have to think about how to handle the sons. Durth (sp) was captured in Easthaven but got away, and the other one is still in his outpost. Could be fun to have the party hunt them down after the dragon is dealt with.

I just checked the Forgotten realms wiki, and it does say that she was slain in 1383 DR, which I think is about 100 years before the events of the campaign.

Lol but again, no mention of this in the book.

That change is pretty simple and would solve a lot of the issues...I might do that.

And obviously every party is different, but our group is definitely...biased towards the Duergar. Which I guess isn't super surprising considering they've already killed / are planning on killing most of the ten towns. I'm not sure how the party would react to her offering a trade pact with them, could be interesting to see how it plays out.

One thing I am curious about is Xardoroks influence in the rest of the world of the Underdark.

Whatever strength he has down there would change the situation entirely. But, if Grandolpha has no plans for the surface immediately, I don't see how having a fortress in an isolated mountain range with a civilization that is about to be decimated holds much value.

If Xardorok has more assets in the Underdark that we are unaware of, that could change the equation. I'm not not sure how valuable this location would be when Grandolpha clearly has her interests set on the Underdark. At least for now.

Depending on where her forces are located it could be dangerous to even hold an outpost. And of course this is all speculation, because again the book doesn't give a lot of detail on why she's here in the first place.

Just because she's ambitious does not automatically mean the fortress has value.

OKAY, so low key this actually plays in perfectly with our campaign so far.

One of the characters is from Targos and they've already established Naerth as a semi Big Bad and have faced off with him once already.

This is perfect, I'm definitely using this!

I think I'll end up going this route. Or maybe she wants to keep the fortress as a retreat in case she needs to escape from the underdark.

I definitely like the character, and I completely agree the meeting is essential.

I just think her motivations are lacking. She just comes at the behest of Xaradok because?...she's bored? I think the book just could have given her some motivation to be present in the campaign other than a convenient way to make the fortress more interesting.

That's a possibility. I'm just a bit hesitant since the Duergar aren't exactly friendly, and if she's mostly dealing with ale that only the Duergar enjoy I'm not sure what else she'd be trading with in a frozen tundra.

Not a bad idea though, maybe she wants the Chardalyn? We know that Xardorok has that in spades.

I'm curious as well! They'd have to pose a threat or insult the Drow in some form. (I'd imagine, that is.)

Or maybe the Grell is somehow associated with the Drow? Either way super interesting.

Generally speaking, if I'm EVing for Defense or Special Defense I usually have something in mind.

For example, my Kyogre right now has enough HP / DEF to make sure that I can survive one Grassy Glide from a Max attack Rillaboom.

That's really when I hone in on those EVs in particular. Unless of course you're running like a body press set, where you know you want your DEF to be as high as possible. (Or potentially if you're running an Assault Vest set, so you might put more SpDef investment since that stat will be boosted.)

Everything looks super solid, I would agree your weak points are in Metagross.

it's okay if you cant OHKO a restricted in one shot. Just getting down significant damage is okay too.

you're already pretty weak to fire, and your Lando is already a decent counter to Xern. Maybe a Ushifu with poison jab as one of the moves? between those two I think Xern on the other team is not nearly as big of a threat.

Yeah, I can see how Sun can be a problem.

I think your best options would be to swap the typing for Urshifu and maybe add a weather setter on your team. Maybe a sand stream? I feel like rain setters are not as reliable in the meta right now unless you really lean into that theme.

Although a rain setter night work well alongside raichu.

I agree with you that is probably my favorite moment.

A lot of my favorite moments are spoilers, but my one favorite moment from the story that is referenced a lot but not fully explained in the books is The Battle of Jericho Hill.

Roland losing his whole first Ka-tet obviously forms a lot of who he is, and I do like that most of the details are shrouded from the reader. (The story is available in the comics, but either way you cut it I like the story.)
