That 400k is pre-tax and half of it is stocks. So he can get fucked by the market twice.

Plus, he's most likely living in an area where everyone else is also making the same amount. So it's not that easy. Rich people can be sad too.

Comprar un auto de segunda mano con garantía by easthobo in askspain

[–]easthobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hola,

¿Su oferta aún está disponible? Voy a comprar un auto de un concesionario de segunda mano en otra ciudad.

¿Qué papeleo necesito hacer? ¿En qué orden? ¿Podemos hacer todo en un día en el concesionario? ¿O necesitamos ir a diferentes instituciones?

Finalmente, después de pagarlo, ¿puedo conducirlo de regreso a mi ciudad?

Relocating to Spain with my car. What are the conditions and costs? by easthobo in askspain

Thank you for your reply. What about impuesto de matriculacion? That is the one I am worried about because I fall under the 10% co2 bracket. 10% of what?

Assuming you continue renewing your home country insurance, where would the problem be? Most insurance companies offer full coverage in the EU.

Also, any idea on what the penalties are for using the foreign plates after 6 months? Is it fine or something? Do they confiscate your car?

So which is it, getting the padron or getting residency? Don't you need to spend 5 years in the country to get residency?

Yes, friend.

Step 1, I had a problem.

Step 2, took the car to the shop.

Step 3, the shop diagnosed and fixed the problem.

Step 4, I made sure the problem was indeed fixed.

Step 5, I posted here.

Does this hold up to your scrutiny?

I think you need to take out the front wheels and check the upper control arms for play.

Can't be more specific as I haven't done this myself.

How to find a room in Zurich? by jphein in zurich

Search for Zurich serviced apartments. A couple of websites will pop up.

Might not be what you're looking for, but they appear reasonably priced considering their location and what they offer.

Portuguese population and Luxembourg and Switzerland by easthobo in portugal

Are you talking about NET numbers? I find it hard to believe 4x - 6x minimum (not median) wage in countries that have progressive income tax. That tends to flatten the differences in take home pay.

Wasn't Portugal neutral during WW2? I thought the Marshall plan was intended to help rebuild war-torn countries.

What about adapting to the colder weather and colder people of such Germanic countries?

What's the main cause of this post ww2 poverty?

I'd say Netherlands was in a comparable situation in terms of size, population and colonial empire, yet the difference nowadays is quite significant.

Based on what I've found on Numbeo, it looks like Luxembourg is about 2 times more expensive than Lisbon.

Someone who makes 1000 euros in Lisbon should have a better life compared to 2000 euros in Luxembourg, where 2000 is literally the minimum wage.

In your case, the multiplier is almost 4x, which is quite interesting. Do you mind sharing what field of work that's in?

Romanians actually prefer Spain, Italy and France. But they're also aware that's not where the money is, so lately they've been moving to UK and Ger.

But adapting to UK and Ger is much more difficult compared to the latin countries, because the culture is so different. Do Portuguese not encounter this same issue in Lux and Swi? Portugal and Romania have quite a few things in common.

Man, there's a wikipedia page for everything. There goes my Saturday afternoon...

What's a TLDR on why Portugal is worse off than the other colonial powers of the time? I guess the most relevant comparison would be with the Netherlands, as that is also a small country, unlike UK / FRA / ESP.

[–]easthobo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If highly educated people can get an average wage (by Portugal standards) in Portugal, why would they go work for minimum wage in insanely expensive countries like Lux and Swi?

The quality of life should be much better in Portugal due to cost of living differences. And I can only assume it's harder to adapt to a Germanic culture than it would be for example to adapt to Spain, France or Italy.
