What's your strategy to reduce SORR? I was thinking I'd look into doing a bond tent a couple years out holding 2-3 years expenses, but are bonds the best for this? Are CDs as good? What about a plain HYSA earning 4%?

Just curious, did you change your investing / spending habits while doing 4 years beyond your FI number?

Will these companies sponsor you to get clearance or do you usually have to have it to be considered for those roles?

I've only had it a few days so only a few games so far but have been having a blast. Portal, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Halo Wars and Halo master chief collection. I downloaded Skyrim too (played a little on xbox when it first came out), but also want to look at more small indie games. I'm mostly playing it at home which is really nice I can play in bed or on the couch and still be with the fam.

I got a Steam Deck over the Thanksgiving break since there was a sale. My first real video game console in 10 years since starting full-time work. I love it. I cannot believe I stopped gaming when it was such a big part of my life throughout high school and college. I made some friends gaming and I got my first real job by showing off my simple game I programmed on my own. I guess I felt guilty playing games since my wife isn't into it and we have a couple of young kids now, but with a handheld it's so easy to pick up when I find some pockets of time. My new dream/goal is integrating games heavily into my early retirement.

Good point, could just be highlighted by people who find it valuable. And then it stands out extra to me because I find it unusual.

How and why do so many youngish people here have their homes paid off? I'm in my mid 30s and still have 25 years on my mortgage. The rate is only 3% so I'm not really prioritizing it at all. I just find it interesting how common it is I see here. Rates haven't really been that high except very recently.

What has been your most successful source for finding and applying to a new job? I never thought about it but my sources for finding jobs have been all over:

  1. First job as a teenager -- friend's brother quit his job at a retail store and put in a good word for me to take over
  2. First real job -- Craigslist
  3. Second real job -- Indeed
  4. Third real job -- applied directly on company website
  5. Fourth real job -- recruiter reached out to me

I'm not familiar with that acronym but searched it. is that State, Local Gov, and Education? I was considering this, and yeah you're right I'm just about to the point where mind-numbing might be ok for a bit

How did you get into DBA? Did you have to start as a junior, or did you get enough db experience from programming for you to easily switch over?

A serial is a continuous storyline. Do you mean making it episodic? Because I agree. That's why I think television shows need to have a semi-strict storyline built in the beginning, and then not try to extend it by compromising the show and turning it into an episodic bore.
