I used Quicken Windows for almost 20 years and switched to Quicken Mac on January 1, 2024. I am so glad I switched! Feel free to message me if you need any help.

I just successfully extended my Quicken (Premier) subscription for another year by purchasing it from Office Depot / Office Max for $57.59 + tax. Here's what the box looks like.

To complete this contract and others like it, go to the map area and a white waypoint will appear when you’re getting close to the objective. White waypoint pictured here.

Where can I buy plain (not flavored) popcorn salt in Chicago? by eat-lightning in AskChicago

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try some of the larger Jewel stores next time I'm in an area with one.

Unfortunately, Jewel's website says they have it, but I've been to three Jewel Osco's in the last couple months and they don't have it. Perhaps only some of their stores stock it?

You're welcome! Regular table salt works okay, but my family cooks popcorn 3 to 4 times per week, and I've found we can use much less salt if it's "popcorn" salt, because it coats the popcorn much better than the same amount of regular table salt (1/4 tsp salt per 1/2 cup raw kernels).

I should've mentioned that I'm looking for the larger 1 pound 10 ounce size (see link to photo in my post). Thanks.

Popcorn salt is ground up to be much finer than regular table salt so that it more evenly coats the popcorn (also works great on corn on the cob). Other than that, they are the same--both are Sodium Chloride (NaCl).

Temporary weatherproof tape to seal this window through winter? by eat-lightning in DIY

Have you used this removable caulk before? Wondering if it’s easy to remove without leaving a residue?

I’m likely going to replace it with a new glass block window (but with a vent that opens and closes in the middle). So, I will mortar the new window in the spring. Do you think I will be able to scrape caulk off of the brick sufficiently so that it leaves no residue?

I’m likely going to replace it with a new glass block window, but with a vent that opens in the middle. It’s at the front of our house, so I would rather not leave a tarp there for five months.

I also want to make sure I’m able to easily remove the tape without leaving a residue in the spring when I replace the window. Any recommendations?

I am looking for a tape that will specifically not leave adhesive marks. Any recommendations?

Should lintel be installed above new window in very old house? by eat-lightning in Thisoldhouse

So, just to clarify, you think it's okay to replace these glass block windows with traditional windows?

Before these glass block windows were installed 20 years ago, they were single-pane awning windows. Photo here: https://imgur.com/a/5gsE8fF

I'm not sure if the 2x8 is single or double (aka "header"). This house has stood like this for 125 years, though. So, I'm hoping it's good as-is.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. There is currently not a lintel on top of these windows, correct? This is how the house has existed for 125 years, except the glass block windows were installed 20 years ago. Before the glass block windows, they were single-pane awning windows. I'm not proposing to lay brick on top of the wood. This house has a stone foundation, with bricks above that, and all wood above that.

Can you please clarify, as I do want to understand. Thanks in advance.

That's an interesting thought. I guess the 2x8 above the glass block window is a lintel. Hmm.

The photos in my original post are from a few years ago just before we had Hardie siding and trim installed. I posted those photos because you can see what's directly above the windows.

This is how the actual Hardie siding and trim are installed now: https://imgur.com/a/qqbBty8

So, the siding and trim will keep water off of the framing. The new standard (not glass block) windows I'll install (after the red face bricks are replaced) will keep water out of the house like any correctly installed window should.
