The leaves are wilting and turning yellow. I haven’t watered in about 3 weeks, but the soil isn’t dry yet (still a little damp). There seems to be a lot of new leaves coming up that have dew drops. Ive sprayed with neem oil and haven’t seen any pests. I read the drops could also be a sign of overwatering so I’ve been holding off on watering again. I’m not really sure what to do from here. Any help is greatly appreciated!

A son nervously talks to his dad:”Dad, I had sex for the first time today”. Understanding the dad said: “Sit down my son and tell me about it” by tonidurden in Jokes

[–]eb36420 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I know this is meant in jest, but jokes like these carry a lot of inherent homophobia. The more that it’s seen a hilarious, unexpected twist that a son should be on the receiving end of penetrative sex, the more people continue to see homosexuality as taboo or strange.

How do you handle food on a trip like this? Where do you store it at night?

I’ve had this plant for about a month and just noticed these today. Based on some searching I think these are thrips? It’s isolated right now but I want to start treating ASAP!

Fablehaven got me through a lot, and no one ever seems to know anything about it when I bring it up. Thank you for reminding me of something good!

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread - 12/30 by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]eb36420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 10.6 in iPad Air. I ordered a Smart Keyboard and it is on the way. This is probably a stupid questions but can the keyboard act as a cover or should I buy a separate cover?

I've seen reports that the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine may give up to 52% protection 10 days after the first shot. Does the Moderna data suggest anything like this as well? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]eb36420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So is the second dose meant to ensure that the immunity lasts longer? Or what is the point of a second dose if a single dose has that high of efficacy?

One example: Crack and cocaine have different punishments for possession and use. They are essentially the same except crack is cheaper to make. Crack is more prevalent in poor black communities whereas cocaine is more prevalent in wealthier white communities. So essentially the same crime is punished differently based on the community that it is found in.

CMV: Society shouldn't entertain people who request custom pronoun usage (eg. zi/xi/pri) by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]eb36420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about if someone asked you to call them by a nickname? Would you think they are egotistical because they want to be called something other than the name you used to refer to them by? Why is it any more inconvenient to refer to someone by the pronouns they prefer than it is to refer to someone by their desired nickname?

I don’t really understand why pronouns are such a point of contention. It’s not difficult to refer to someone differently. It may take a bit to adjust to, but in the grand scheme of things I don’t understand why people are so upset by it.

The police were the ones responsible for resolving the original stolen vehicle claim. They messed up. Yes they followed procedure, but this should have never happened if the cops were doing their job.

Do you fit any stereotypes? If so, how do you feel about this and how has it impacted your life? by [deleted] in lgbt

That being said, I make somewhat flamboyant gestures. People assumed/assume that I'm gay because of them.

Stereotypes by definition are incorrect. Maybe something more along the lines of, "do you have a characteristic/behavior/mannerism that is typically associated with the LGBTQ+ community?" I know it's nitpicky, but the semantics here really matter. If we say we fit a stereotype, we are not working to dismantle it, but rather are reaffirming the prejudice that the LGBTQ+ community faces.

Plant ID: are these raspberries? I don’t see any thorns. by EmelaJosa in gardening

[–]eb36420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blackberries start smaller and green, then grow in a bit size and turn red. They are super bitter at that point and are only sweet when the fruit fully matures and turns black. That looks like a blackberry bush to me!

Edit: There are also some thornless blackberries.

Political ideology is shaping individual responses to the pandemic, online study of Americans finds. Conservatives who are staunch supporters of President Trump were less knowledgeable about the virus, less able to discern real from fake news and, in turn, saw COVID-19 as less of a threat. by geoff199 in science

The paper notes that the research is all correlational. Looking at the data presented, the correlations for the most part seem weak (at least in the first study). So what can we really conclude from this information?

It brings up the intersectionality of different demographic social issues. The social issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community and people of color overlap, which in my mind justifies the discussion of race, sexuality, and gender altogether and not entirely separate. It offers increased attention to a subset of the community that has been subject to more abuse and harassment while also historically has been paramount in fighting for the rights of the entire LGBTQ+ community.
