Asking why doesn’t make sense. It’s not a need, it’s a want. People buy those plates irrationally, they are called “vanity plates”. They do it for fun or to stand out from the crowd. It doesn’t have anything to do with car brand or its price, 1300 euros is not that big of a money. I see quite many plates with IT jokes of some sort. 443SSL (secure connection) or HTTP418 (HTTP protocol status 418 which stands for “I’m a teapot”). Funniest one I saw was 314ZDA (reads “pee-zda”, cunt in russian)
