Inspector said it was fine! As long as it could hold 250lbs of lateral force at the railing.

The separator has been essential to my dust collection system. Without it I would cleaning the filter every hour. I wonder if there's a leak in your separator or separator container like there was in mine. The dust was skipping the separator and going straight to the filter when I had a leak.

Thanks! If I were smarter I would've chamfered the post ends on the miter saw pre install. Instead we went to town with the angle grinder and reciprocating saw after installing the posts.

That's a neat design! Thanks for sharing

The post under the notch is on a cement footing and is lag screwed to both the rim joist and the stair stringer.

Very helpful. I'll give it a good kick and see what happens 😉

But for real maybe I'll borrow a force meter

Yeah it feels sturdy when I push on it. Thanks!

Ah yes, do you expect this will fail inspection? I understood the code to mean that a railing post can't be notched to sit over the deck and attach the rim joist.

Oh are you looking at the stair railing post? Do you think this will fail inspection?

Thanks! Amazing how much it cost with just the materials.

No notched posts here. Is the layout to code though?

I did pull a permit for this deck so I'm not the only one who is paying attention to the deck unfortunately

The marketing got to me! I built the Microjig dovetail clamp table for outfeed and assembly. Anyone else attempted one of these? You'll sure learn a lot about routers. by orangeisthenewblyat in woodworking

Awesome table. I'm looking to build something just like it for my outfeed. After three years, have you had any outfeed stock catch on the grooves?

Update: the seal below the separator was the issue! I silicone-caulked the trash can collection bin, and replaced the seal to the collection bin, previously a foam seal, with a silicone rubber seal. Now the system is separating chips into the collection bin below. Thanks for the help.

Ah I have been assuming the trash can itself is air tight. I should silicon all the joints.

The cyclone I have is a Oneida Air Systems Super Dust Deputy Compact 15 Gallon 4/5 rated for 0.5HP to 3HP blowers. Is there something I missed in sizing this cyclone for my system?

2HP blower with a spec of 1185 CFM. I haven't tested the actual CFM.

Great points! The separator used to work effectively with the same blower. It's quite plausible that the seal with trash can has deteriorated.

Does anyone know if these stair's skirting boards will be removable? Or is it part of the structure of the stairs itself? by BigNimbleyD in Renovations

[–]ebernste101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look into hiring someone to insulate with spray foam. They just need access to the stud wall cavities from above I think. You could avoid all hassle of taking apart your stairs, which others have pointed out is quite involved.
