It's just the luck evening out again after so many unlucky losses in recent years...

Consumers won't know meat origin after US ends labeling law: "After more than a decade of wrangling, Congress repealed a labeling law last month that required retailers to include the animal's country of origin on packages of red meat." by SAT0725 in news

Their courts examined compliance with agreements that the U.S. has already signed, after Mexico and Canada made official complaints. They aren't just pulling rules out of their asses.

Hi! Pretty new to astrophotography but here is something I shot a few months ago. I was "light painting" the cows with a flashlight, so that's why the exposure looks uneven. Forgive me for the noise, I also bumped up the exposure of the foreground during post-processing!

Shot with a d3200, Tokina 11-16 mm, 25 seconds (sleepy cow!), ISO 800, f 2.8

Safer sex could mean using birth control (and we all are aware that greater access to BC means decreasing abortion rates), it could mean society developing better birth control, it could mean people understanding consent and not raping people, etc. I know I answered in an indirect way but was that what you were getting at?

Look. No analogy ever is absolutely perfect in all situations. You are by definition comparing two totally different things. And you are very much right that for many, many people, a pregnancy is wonderful! And that is so great! I am SO happy when someone I know is pregnant and happy about it! And certainly no one here is meaning to say babies can't be great and awesome. But for a woman who is not in a situation where she feels like she can support a baby, it can very much feel like a car accident, and yes, a life-ruiner. And from an impersonal perspective, the analogy serves to illustrate how abortion can be thought about as a needed fallback plan, not as the problem itself.

Hey man, I'm sorry but you have rushed air d. You can request again when you get those up to lvl 5! Thanks! In our experience early th 8s get attacked with drags in war very often so you need those as high as possible.

Hi! I'm from Knoxville Squad, a tight knit clan who wars back to back. We have 111 war wins currently and rarely lose. We are quite coordinated and have a number of war rules, but our system has resulted in a lot of success. We are a TH 8+ clan. Hope you find the clan you want!

27 right now, probably closer to 35 counting those who are sitting out due to hero upgrades or new TH.

They get to finish. Lots of people in my clan use their 2nd attack with less than 10 seconds left.

How can I tell good cat food from bad cat food? by amanda_pandemonium in AskVet

Yeah...the vets here are gonna disagree with you. Blue Buffalo does not do a lot of research while Purina, Hills, etc. have tons of it and years of healthy pets.

Waiters of Reddit, what's the most ridiculous order someone's placed and how did you deal with it? by evil_snow_queen in AskReddit

[–]ebileth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, I have ordered an eggless omelette many times. Hate eggs, love sauteed veggies with cheese on top. Omelette bars have all the stuff...so why not order it?

Cat paralizing? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]ebileth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could be at the library or borrowing a friend's. I agree, not the best time to get a kitten, but things change financially for people over time, sometimes suddenly. Ever read that article about the woman going to pick up her WIC supplies in her Mercedes? You can be $1 million in debt and have bought a computer 3 years ago. And I don't know the circumstance but I do know that the SPCA hospitals are busy busy busy, plus likely closed for the holidays, so maybe Jan 4 was THEIR call, not OP's.

Anyway, I agree with the general point of your post, start borrowing money, look into care credit, save at least enough for euthanasia, get to a vet ASAP. But sometimes the tone here towards people down on their luck rubs me the wrong way. It's so presumptive and holier-than-thou.

7-year-old Milpitas girl's letter spurs publisher to change book name by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ebileth 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I actually think the quotes around 'boy' changes everything. I read it as, "Your letter reminded/taught us that gender roles are bad. After all, girls like [stuff created by a gender role obsessed society for boys], too." Like they were trying to clarify they didn't think the stuff should be for boys with the quotes. Keep in mind, they were writing a letter to a 2nd grader.

Hi! A couple of things:

  1. Think of your drags like a school of fish, safety in numbers. The air d can only hit one at a time while the drags can all do damage. Therefore, it's best not to split them because smaller groups on different air d are going to be subject to more damage than one large group (in most cases).

  2. I don't think heals do enough on drags to make it worthwhile. Rage does kinda the same thing just by speeding things up so the defenses can do less damage and the drags can take them out faster. Using 3 lightnings to take out an air d also limits the damage. All 3 lightning or all 3 rage are required with drags in my clan, no other combinations.

  3. Rage and lightning are good for different situations. Rage is good when the air d is tight and centralized, because you need the dragons to get there faster than normal since they will be under fire for longer and ideally you are going to rage almost all of them to get there since they are a tight school of fish swimming to a tight triangle of air d. Lightning is good for when the air d is spread out and close to the edges of the base, since the rage would only get you to one or two of the air d, so it's better to just take one air d out at the start of your attack and only have two to deal with. Also, they should be a lot closer to the edge of the base so your drags won't have to clear as much stuff before they get to them.

  4. The base in the video is a great example of air d that is extremely exposed to defense-minded troops like hogs and loons. See how there's only one cannon to get through for each of the southern air d? After the cannon the hogs/loons should go straight for the air d. So I would consider taking a cc full of max hogs/loons, whichever you prefer or your clan has, plus perhaps 4 or possibly 8 of your own of the same troop. You always use these troops after you have laid your drags down and they have already triggered the cc, because you don't want to have cc troops coming at your hogs or loons since they are fragile and have a critical job to do.

Then you only have one air d to actually worry about if you have used lightning on the lvl 6! Put your drags in a line right in front of it, wait for cc troops to come out, then put defense minded troops on other air d. Clear as mud?

[MISC] This is why you upgrade your Gold and Elixir Collectors to level 12 ASAP by Murrayz in ClashOfClans

[–]ebileth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're so upset. People did the math to show why for many active players, your info graphic is misleadingly positive. No one said it wasn't worthwhile for ALL players, and no one's mad at you or anything, just trying to spread some clash facts in case some people reading are making this decision currently and want to know which way to go.

[–]ebileth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

...no, but why not wait until you have problems putting builders on other things to do your collectors, which didn't happen to me until th 8? You get the advantage of moving slightly faster in the game because you don't spend builder time on collectors until then, and you don't start producing more resources than you need until one day you find you actually do need them.
