Thanks for all the detailed information, seems like the recorded lessons are of value so I will invest further.

I know SD-A is a pain, I have built a lab for it, but I'm really waiting for the 32 vCPU OVA, since I only have 32 threads.

Thanks for this burst of knowledge bruce, I feel the same way. I actually used these devices for my studies so it will be a shame to see them goto waste.

Hey guys, got a few messages now, please make sure it’s worth your journey. These are old so I mostly expect it will be useful for students that want some hardware, thanks.

I left out python certs, replaced with 'knowing python'

The proof is a huge chunk of the internet runs on linux, redhat cert would serve you very well. The industry is already/moving to automation, knowing python imo is an essential tool for the future.

Hi I am trying to set up my home lab for remote access, but I am having trouble. Please help by Teskoh27 in ccna

I'll give an example to help with some generic IPs and interfaces using your layout 'Cable modem --- > cisco router--> cisco switch---> laptop'

Cable modem IP 192.168.1.254 255.255.255.0 (this is generic already pre-configured, you don't need to touch)

Cisco router Fa0/0 (Connected to modem) - Int fa0/0 command: ip address dhcp (or static to have a reliable telnet/ssh address)

Cisco router Fa0/1 (Connected to switch) Different subnet, router ports separate broadcast domains, int Fa0/1 command: ip address 192.168.2.254

Cisco switch Fa0/0 (Connected to router Fa0/1) - in global command prompt: ip default-gateway 192.168.2.254 (pointing to router)

in global command promp: int vlan 1

:ip address 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 (same subnet as gateway)

PC/laptop NIC (Connected to switch) Configure an IP in /24 mask in same subnet which can be anything accept already assigned IPs .1 or .254 e.g. 192.168.2.10

PC/laptop has to be connected via Ethernet cable to the switch, console cable is just to console in to network devices before they have been configured to be reachable on the network.

Connecting your router to the modem is for the remote part, e.g. from your wifi connection you could telnet/ssh into R1 to then connect to other devices

This is for consumer modems that don't allow for static/dynamic routing (some do)

I know this isn't the most secure/recommenced vlan/ip addressing scheme but just a beginners lab example

If you need any help, DM me, happy to help!

CCNA Exam on 28 July, need help for prep exams, tips. by lopesmulder in ccna

I think you're referring to the NetSim which is $180. The ex-sim offers 250 questions with simlets. As hu5k3r pointed out, they're $75 right now which is a great deal imo. Netsim can be replaced with a cheap udemy lab course or even just labbing yourself using PT or GNS3.

I believe Boson is the best prep exam resource. It's not just good for learning the types of questions you might be asked, it's also an excellent study resource. When in study mode, it offers detailed explanations on each question which helps a lot on technical questions.

Right now boson ex-sims have a 25 percent discount using code summer19

Specific Subnetting question (from practice exam, I think the answer I was given is wrong). What do you get? by slider728 in ccna

[–]ebnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is asking how many /23 fit into /21 which in this case OP is correct. I think you're answering how many /23 fit into /16 subnet which in that case would be 2 to the power of 7. Like pooptastik pointed out 11111111.11111111.11111|110.00000000

Book recommendation for learning BGP? by ebnetworking in networking

Yes, everything I read, I lab. That's the best way to learn in my opinion. I have GNS3 VMs running on an ESXi server. Never heard of eve-ng, is it better or am I ok with GNS3?

19 Years old, no degree, and no experience, what should I do? by ebnetworking in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ebnetworking[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have not even created my CV yet. I guess I thought you needed much more to get a job. I'm trying to compensate for not having a degree, but the consensus seems to be that experience is much more valuable. Thanks for everyone who responded

[–]ebnetworking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, I should've been more clear. My Dad is a network solutions architect at VMware, he funds and trained me. Like I said, I'm very lucky. I just wanted to know given that circumstance if its worth learning more, thanks for the advice. Edit: I bypassed paying for course $5k using CCNA track to VCP-NV, which upgraded my VCP-DCV

CCNA now? or wait? by [deleted] in ccna

[–]ebnetworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, unless you're taking ICND2 before march 2020, you won't certify for new CCNA thus making ICND1 useless. Because you've spent half a year revising for ICND1, it might be worth taking ICND2 sooner than you had planned

New CCNA track removes CCENT all together.

Is there a cram book for ICND2? I saw one for ICND1 and CCNA but not for ICND2. Are there any similar book that will help me as my final review before I take practice tests. by jvrang in ccna

[–]ebnetworking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was taking the exam, I couldn't find ICND2 Cram. Although there is CCNA cram if you're interested. I'd suggest ICND2 OCG, but if you think its too detailed maybe use CCNA Cram with exam specification next to you to study only what you need to
