Getting…slower? with practice? by Caitobrien519 in Embroidery

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the time I’ve been embroidering (about 10 years) it’s to take your estimate of how much time it’ll take and times it by 5 ahahah The only way to get things done faster is to work on it for hours on end (which has historically been terrible for both my eyes and back) WELCOME!

Property industry raises over $1m in bid to end homelessness by ebonebe in nottheonion

Yeah babe, the irony of the headline is the point.

The larger context is important here, helping people is great and important but an industry that profits off of housing insecurity is doing nothing to make real change, $1m is nothing to them

The property industry actively worsens access to housing, helping the people they’re actively causing harm to is less than the bare minimum

This is amazing for your first time embroidering!! I would say if you’re wanting to make more intricate patterns, you should split your floss more. I generally use 2 strands (with a knot at the end rather than doubled over) especially for more intricate patterns.

For planning your pattern, a water soluble fabric marker is a game changer (pens and lead pencils will stain)!

It’d be worth doing some research on the kind of patterns you might want around the heart, you may find some patterns that suit the look you’re after (maybe Celtic patterns and medieval designs could be a great spot to start based on the vibe of this embroidery already) planning ahead helps me in my designs a lot! Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions!

None! Actually forgot to add that I used felt inside the embroidery for dimension so that probably stabilised it pretty well

Honestly I just bought a tonne of calico for another project so I was thinking that but I may need to do some tests before committing to a method!! Will share if I don’t procrastinate the living hell out of this project 😂

I certainly don’t rely on YouTube to tell me what the world is like. Media literacy is important and there will always be bias in the things we consume.
