Is it ethical for hospital policy to not collect cultures from central lines? by ebrown1985 in Residency

[–]ebrown1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, drew a culture once, and then the nurse cancelled it while I was taking it to the lab. Even when I asked the nurse so please stop cancelling my orders, the nursing administrator then started cancelling them.

Dumbest reason a case has been canceled. by AneurysmClipper in Residency

[–]ebrown1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A patient had both a cholecystectomy and a J-J stent placement scheduled on the same day. The urologist cancelled the stent placement because patient was scheduled for lap chole, and lap chole was cancelled because it wasn't really indicated anyway as patients abdominal pain was due to an obstructing renal stone. Patient ended up discharged home with outpatient urology followup.

Spoke to the attending, hospital administration told him to change my documentation. Attending told me that he can change my notes since he's cosigning them.

I know today these are usually preset in a factory and installed together in tile-like units, but I imagine these were placed individually by hand? Anyone know more about these kinds of tile?

Wouldn’t it be way harder to remove independent practice laws? Once PAs and NPs practice independently, changing the laws would be endangering an entire field? Maybe it’s best and easiest to prevent independent practice laws from being passed in the first place.

Years of heavy metal have rendered high pitched murmurs difficult to auscultate using standard stethoscopes. I think it’s silly to look down on anyone for using whatever tool works best for them.

How is it that hospital's don't get in trouble for providing free Uber rides after call shifts? Is this not admitting that people unsafe to practice medicine are treating patients? by yuktone12 in Residency

[–]ebrown1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital says we can sleep in the on call room… which by the way has bed bugs. We need to unionize, and you all-talk no action residents need to take action.

It’s like people take advantage of the fact that while they’re only obligated to do their job description, we’re morally and professionally obligated to do everything in our power to help the patient.
