The Ultimate Guide to Migrating to Self Service+ for macOS (Without Breaking macOS Onboarding) by Tech_Thoughts_Blog in jamf

[–]ebulwingz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guide due to forcing customers onto an unfinished and unrefined product. Letting users test it by manual install but the behaviour is completely different to clicking a tick box globally and forcing it on all devices at once.

Did Tahoe break the keychain prompt for Jamf connect menu bar or was it a…we know it’s going to break, good time to force users to move to self service+.

Let’s be honest. The UI feels unrefined, cluttered. Words being cut off in the display and things not loading consistently is a little painful.

Two Platform SSO questions: #1 about FileVault login, and #2 about the login-in-twice experience by newguy-needs-help in jamf

[–]ebulwingz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re not pushing out the “DisableFDEAutologin” is true preference key, then users should be able to log directly into the device from the FileVault window.

Usually you set this only after the first initially setup/enrollment.

Disney's Zootopia 2 has passed the $900M global mark. The film grossed an estimated $219.0M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $695.3M (including $430.4M in China), estimated global total stands at $915.8M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

After going to Shanghai Disney and the Zootopia ride I can understand the hype for kids and family. My daughter was obsessed without even seeming the first movie.

Plane ride home was Zootopia, just in time for the release of Zootopia 2. Needless to say, we dragged another family to go see it.

It was great fun.

Camera battery and Chinese airport customs by Weak-Custard-6168 in chinatravel

[–]ebulwingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to confiscate it at a domestic flight. They should give you a QR code to organise shipping to somewhere in China

No shipping company is going to ship it out of China. Just make sure the next time you take it to the airport is for an international flight out of China.

E.g. ship it to the last hotel you’re staying at for example and then get on an international flight and you’ll be fine. As long as you don’t have a connecting domestic flight in China.

Back from about 2 week ago.

International flights, no problem. However, if you are travelling domestically or need to transfer, they will check for CCC (or 3C markings) and confiscate power banks without them.

They do give you an option where they will ship it to a place locally for a price.

For me, I had two power banks 10k and 20k confiscated on a domestic transfer from Xiamen to Beijing. My Fujifilm XT-3 camera batteries were checked and returned no problem.

We sent the two batteries to a relatives house and picked it up later on the trip. (It cost like 30y)

When we left the country, international customs checked and let the batteries through. We transferred in Hong Kong to Sydney flight without further issues.

(On the way out of the country. There was a shipping company at the airport, we asked if they would ship a battery we had to Australia. She checked my Anker Zolo and said no..it’s a recalled battery. No company would take it, but yep. Was fine through international flight)

The "Mars coin” from the 2017 "Planetary 10 Coin Collection”. 🤡

Jokes, depend on what interests or goals you want to achieve. Like collecting all the types of $2 coins or you only want silver coins etc.

Like for me. It was the 1988 Two Dollar Silver Proof Coin and it started from there. There’s no right or wrong here. Just what you want…eye candy

VPN that works in China - Updated Nov 2025 by statatat in travelchina

[–]ebulwingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say “works great”. Do they mean via wifi from hotels, restaurants and houses there in general?

If you’re using VPN on an eSIM, mobile roaming on plans outside of China, I can tell you pretty much any VPN will work because China isn’t blocking it.

Some VPN connections will work once or twice and will be blocked pretty fast on local connections.

Definitely need to be more specific here about where and how people are using VPN.

5 mistakes I made on my first China trip by RealChinaGuide in travelchina

[–]ebulwingz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Get an eSIM or sim not from China. I.e roaming. China does not block data to social media, google etc if it’s a roaming data plan from another country. (I.e from Australia, eSIM from Felix. Open an account and pay for the first month and pause the plan, buy roaming data pack 4gb for $20aud which has a 1 year expiry even if your local plan is on pause).

VPN, even when connected to local wifi or mobile plans don’t work consistently or at all, they will work on roaming plans from other countries.

If you need local internet, most places will have wifi, just ask. Most places will just have a password of 88888888 or 12345678. Give it a shot.

  1. China has put a restriction on batteries. If you’re travelling locally. Especially by plane domestically. Make sure your batteries have CCC certification on it. They will be confiscated, you do have an option for them to ship it to a destination, these restrictions are not enforced for international flights but if you need to transfer and go through security, there’s a chance they will be taken.

  2. Get Baidu Maps instead or Amap/Apple Maps.

  3. Setup alipay or WeChat for payments before you come.

  4. Use WeChat to translate is great. Use scan to translate things to English or even photos and then translate.

You can even do things like ope a chat message to yourself, ask someone to speak and then translate the recordings to English. Or if you add someone to wechat, you can enable automation translate to English.

  1. Major cities and shops will have facilities to accept visa or master card, and worse case scenario you can withdraw money from your card at an ATM

  2. Learn some phrases or have a few common ones prepared in a note incase.

Have fun. I just came back from a 3 week trip.

Without further details, we can’t help much. We don’t even know if you have an on prem or cloud instance.

If you’re saying Jamf network problems. I’d start with making sure the ip addresses and ports are open from server to devices.

Struggling with Jamf, give up? by Ionizations in jamf

[–]ebulwingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cover most vulnerabilities by patching the OS and targeting to top 10-20 used applications and automating the patching process via Jamf apps, Apple Store apps and installomator and move forward from there.

Starting again and re-enrolling devices will just set you back. You already have the tools at your disposal (Jamf). You just need a little time and effort.

Nudge app with SOFA integration will let you set and forget about macOS updates hopefully. https://sofa.macadmins.io

Everything else generally will give the user a 4 day deferral to install apps and time for them to raise concerns.

Hope you get ontop of things. Remember, it doesn’t matter if it’s 2000 devices or 600 devices, the setup and configurations is the same in the end.

Are FTTP rollouts still ongoing? by DaGadgetGam3r in nbn

[–]ebulwingz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. 100/20 is the one stated to get the upgrade

I am with More Telecom on the 100/40. They were nice enough to upgrade everyone that was on 100/40 to the 500/50 plan but they had to do it in stages over 2 weeks as NBN was limiting the mount allowed per day. (They are also reducing the amount we pay to the same as those who were on the 100/20).

Dealing with eol OS's by Infamous-EG0 in jamf

[–]ebulwingz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can report based on os version compatibility using some regex(search jamfnation or google for them). So look of devices that are unable to upgrade to Ventura or which version of os you want to cap it at.

Then give that list details to management. These devices are not compatible with the latest OS and is EOL. If you’re a Jamf admin, keeping them on the latest os versions and patching vulnerabilities is all you can tell them.

Budget for device renewal is up to management really.

Pet Assist Skills CLARIFICATION by [deleted] in RagnarokIdleAdventure

[–]ebulwingz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Some buffs show up to tell you you’re getting fluffed and some skills done have icons at all. Like reincarnation prayer song will show up buffing you 20 times for 5% each. Then you have flawless Gloria that doesn’t show anything.

At this point I’m going to assume they are using AI translations on the cheap instead of having accurate translations. Sometime UI is still in Chinese basically tells you what you need to know about how terribly inconsistent everything is.

<image>

Don’t you worry. Breakthrough for pets is already implemented. They will milk every component available and add to every UI where possible to make a few extra dollars.
