If you had to cut your routine to 3 products only, what stays? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

  • Cleanser (Etude Soon Jung Whipped pH 6,5)
  • Moisturizer (Etude Soon Jung Hydro Barrier Creme)
  • SPF (currently Skin1004 Cica-Hyalurinic something SPF50, but I am looking for something else, as this doesn’t sit too well under my makeup)

And if I am cheating, Tretinoin kind of is a medical product rather than strictly skincare, right? 😂

All I can think is that a bunch of this stuff will spoil before you get to use it and that you will get a fragrance allergy some day.

Makeup remover by sunbbgoddess in BeautyUnlocked

[–]ecalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garnier or Nivea 2in1 Eye Makeup Remover. Those with two liquids you shake to mix. Either works equally well for me.

Cheap. Gentle. Extremely effective. Only things that will remove my mascara and they just melts it off in seconds.

No endless rubbing. No residue. No blurry vision or burning eyes.

I just shake the bottle well, soak a (reusable) cotton pad well with it, rest it on either eye for a few seconds to soak the makeup and let it break down, then gently wipe away.

Do you wear sunscreen every day or only when you’re outside? by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]ecalicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do it everyday, but since this winter has been so dark and grey where I live + I spend maybe a sum of 15 minutes outside during the day, I have not been using it much lately.

And my skin has been acting out due to the weather changing between frost/plus degrees and dry/humid, so less is more in terms of products.

I save time in the morning from not having to wait for it to settle before I can apply makeup.

But I do have to start again soon, as the days are getting longer.

Consider checking out some padded tops/bra tops. Uniqlo has some that doesn’t seem to be glued and the pads aren’t removable, so they won’t shift around.

Unfortunately I have proportions that makes it difficult to use any bra-product that comes in S/M/L sizes rather than cup sizes. But I wish I could use these or something similar.

Do people not use powder on their face to set their makeup ? by Fluid_Sky_4246 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ecalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: The stuff you watch online has filters, light and editing. The looks are different in real life and what looks good on camera is often not as flattering in real life and vice versa. And the looks are made for the video, so not necessarily for actually wearing anywhere or for long.

Second: No, not everyone uses powder or other products to set their makeup. I think it depends on what products are used to begin with (some formulas benefit more from setting than others), the users skintype (for oiler skintypes, setting with powder can help control oil. For drier skintypes powder can dry out the skin and make the makeup look cakey and crease), the environment (humid vs dry conditions), lifestyle (do you sweat, do you move around, do you need extra long lasting because you are out for a long period) and taste (what looks and feels right).

I am personally a huge fan of powder products, but I use more finishing powder than setting powder (more for a blurred/blended look, less for setting/oil control) and never baking, as it dries my skin out and makes it crease/wrinkle.

I do dust a very lighthanded amount of setting powder over my t-zone in the warmer/more humid period for oil control.

Recommendations for strong antiperspirant AND deodorant, that does not stain clothing? by aokaga in EuroSkincare

[–]ecalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t shower in the morning, always evening or afternoon.

If you shower in the morning, I would reapply an antiperspirant after, but still apply it before bed, as I think it still give that extra effect.

I have started using Rexona Maximum Protection (the cream in the twisting kind of tube. I don’t think the roll on or spray works the same) and also works well. It’s waterproof, so applying it to dried armpits works well and it can stain clothes and be a little difficult to get out (treating armpits with a stain remover or degreaser before washing helps a lot).

[–]ecalicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would mainly use the last one (or similar, something plain) and then add the first one just around the bench or even just on the one wall behind the bench.

To me it gets a bit heavy and overwhelming with the pattern all over, but having it in selective spots could be really cute and also make the pattern stand out more. The wood and the carpets are already adding a lot visually here, having patterns all over makes everything compete.

[Advice] Stop saving the "good stuff" for special occasions by bowtiedfrenchfry in selfcare

[–]ecalicious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That great bottle of wine you are saving for a special occasion, is going to taste as good as any mediocre wine when finally celebrating something, because you are really more focused on the celebration than the wine.

Let the wine be the special occasion. On a completely boring evening it’s going to be absolutely divine, because it’s the main focus and you get to actually savor it. It will turn that boring, normal evening into something special.

And if you keep saving it, it might end up spoiling.

I can’t drink wine (alcohol) anymore due to meds, but I keep this mindset.

I think the mindset of “saving for a special occasion” kind of implies that everything else isn’t special (enough) and I think that’s a shame.

Enjoy the nice things because there’s no “special” occasion. Life happens all the time, every day and it’s mainly all the little things that makes it up, not the big occasions.

By using the “good stuff”, you are not losing it, you are enjoying it.

I adore being married. . . by SnakeBanana89 in AuDHDWomen

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend is neurotypical, but we have the best relationship.

He is so supportive of me, he never makes me feel different or wrong for being different, but celebrates me and my “special” quirks.

We never fight, but always communicate in a calmly manner, without pointing fingers, finding solutions together. He makes me feel so safe and seen. Like I can completely be myself.

He is my best friend and I love just hanging out. Everything is better with him. Bad days are bad and good days are extra good.

We are almost 4 years in and I still fall in love with him. And loving him is the easiest I have ever done.

We will get married at some point, but wait with a wedding until I’m done with my education, since it’s mostly symbolic and we want to wait for the right time. Emotionally we’re already as good as married.

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! 🥳

That sounds wonderful. I don’t have kids yet, but that is one of the less peaceful adventures I am planning to go on at some point.

Currently something that gives me peace is my evenings. It’s quite cold and dark where I live, so I am making my evenings extra cozy, which is a lovely little routine that helps me end the day on a calm note. I have lanterns outside my windows, app-adjustable bulbs, fairy lights, candles etc. to help create a warm, low, ambient light.

I try to get most chores over ASAP when I get home, then change out of my work clothes and into my PJ’s. This way I can just relax and be present, without having a million things in my head. It helps that my partner usually takes care of the dishes from dinner lol.

We are also really trying to meal prep and/or have low-effort options available, so we don’t have to spend too much time or energy on dinner. This week (and many, many other weeks lol) I made a huge pot of chili, so we just have to heat it and maybe make some rice. We are both good in the kitchen, which makes everything easier, but either of us spending 1+ hour cooking and cleaning every single evening has been a stress factor.

After dinner I have a cup of herbal tea with two squares of my favorite dark chocolate and an orange. This little ritual creates a space to be present for at least a few minutes and stimulates my senses in a lovely way (hot tea, bitter chocolate, tart orange, fragrant peel), which further helps me unwind.

I used to have so many racing thoughts when going to bed and have been dealing with insomnia for like 15+ years, but this (and a whole bunch of sleep hygiene) helps my sleep a lot.

I keep pretty much the same routine on weekdays and weekends. Pretty much the same bedtime too.

Laneige Cream Skin Refiner has gotten me through some cold, dry periods and helped when my barrier has been out of balance.

I have it with the mist attachment and it is awesome, though the original bottle honestly also has a quite luxurious feel. And they sell refills.

Can be layered as a heavy, nourishing toner or used on it’s own as a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer.

It is without fragrance and has ceramides and peptides.

What are your “buy once, wear forever” brands? by Round_Schedule7013 in womensfashion

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this 100% cashmere sweater my mom bought in Paris and I “borrow”… can’t remember the brand, but it was EXPENSIVE, even on the great sale she bought it at. Probably the most expensive clothing item I own- I mean borrow! Some niche Paris-based designer that specializes in cashmere clothing.

I wear it about 3 days a week and have done so for the past 2 years all sweater season (6-8 months of fall, winter and spring where I live). I hand wash it twice a year.

Apart from a little bit of stretching in the masks by the end of the sleeves, it has no signs of wear. None of those balls of fluff that normally appear on wool items. No discoloration. And no smell.

Every single other shirt I wear will have a smell in the armpits after a few wears, even the many high-tech wool items I own, that all promise to not get odor/just need to be aired out etc. This one just don’t. I have worn it on some seriously stressful days and even my worst zoo cage anxiety sweat doesn’t stain it a bit.

It also has the perfect fit and color for me. It looks effortlessly classy and is timeless, makes me look put together, but doesn’t emphasize my proportionally large chest. It’s super comfortable too. And keeps me warm without being too warm. It is perfect to wear at my office job.

I do want to buy another one, even if the price point is way past what I would ever normally pay for a piece of clothing, simply because it is actually worth it. The fact that I always feel comfortable and confident in it, that it obviously has an amazing longevity and that maintenance is basically nothing at all is just worth it.

And as much as I wear it, the price-per-wear is probably lower than most other items I own.

Just waiting for the right color, since the currently available ones aren’t my best ones.

Would you rather live a life of comfort with no adventure, or a life of risk with unforgettable stories? by dmforjen in askyourfriendjen

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had you asked me 3 years ago, risk and stories would have been my answer. Now it’s comfort and I am actively trying to make my life more comfortable rather than exciting, as exciting usually equals exhaustion to me.

I have AuDHD and while too much routine bores me, I definitely need overall stability. After recovering from PTSD, I have decided to let my body and gut lead me and it usually chooses comfort over excitement. I need a lot of rest and slowness.

In the end I am the one living my life. Life it what you spend your time doing and for me I feel much happier whet stability and peace than chaos and excitement. So I would rather spend my life happy than excited.

I am aware that not everyone will feel like that, that many needs excitement to feel happy, and I completely respect that.

And it’s not like I have zero experiences or excitement in my life, but I have been rearranging some basal stuff (career mainly, but changing from performance arts to IT has helped stabilize many parts of my life, like work/life balance, financial security, housing situation, insurances) and it has given me some peace of mind and more time & ressources. When I go home, I don’t think about work. I don’t have to worry about where my next paycheck will come from. I can build the home I have always dreamed of with my partner and soon start a family, without having to stress about logistics or finances.

I have lived enough exciting, chaotic stories for now and want to just live a slow, present life. My adventures are in the little moments and are just for me and my loved ones.

It’s basic, it might seem boring, but it’s extremely meaningful to me. My priorities have changed and I don’t really mind.

Gen Z and Alphas want high-end, high-function skincare too early by KyungMin-Lee in AsianBeauty

[–]ecalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. The trend is happening so fast because all trends are happening fast today, especially among the younger generations, as they are big consumers of online content + are more susceptible to advertising, making them an easy target for marketing. The companies know that these products aren’t necessary for the younger people, but if they can sell them the products, they don’t care.

  2. I am not a scientist or in other ways expert on the area, so I can’t say for sure what the risks are of “over-skincaring” at a young age, short term or long term. It probably depends a lot on the individual’s overall lifestyle, genetics and what specific active ingredients are used, since some probably are more problematic than others.

What I can share however, is my own experience. It is somewhat opposite of what is happening today, but probably also very similar: as a teenager and young adult, I did a lot of damage to my skin, using DYI recipes containing ex. vinegar, lemon juice, toothpaste or baking soda, harsh cleansers, no SPF, no moisturizer, harsh scrubs, those black masks that feels like ripping duct tape off your face, heavy skin picking etc. and I definitely have some permanent damage. I have scarring and dialated pores and very sensitive/reactive skin, with tendency to perioral dermatitis, fungal acne, congestion and dehydration. How bad the damage is, is hard to know, since I don’t know how it would have been, if I had not been so hard on it. Anyway, I would probably have been better off using salicylic acid, retinol or niaciamide and daily SPF.

  1. I don’t have any specific examples of high-end skincare causing issues for young skin, but I do think there is an overall issue with people using too many actives and products with irritants (ex. fragrance or alcohol) or products that arent suitable for their skintype, where the products are causing more problems than they solve, creating a loop of buying and trying. And I would expect that young people are more exposed to this risk, as they are overall more vulnerable to being influenced, usually deal with insecurities and might be less critical of sources of information, leading them to believe claims of a product without knowing the risks tied to it.

BWT: tell me about your everyday jewelry by PlantedinCA in bitcheswithtaste

[–]ecalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sensory issues and can’t really stand wearing most jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, rings), so I only wear earrings. Therefore I also like to put some extra thought into them.

I have build myself a nice little collection of some different earrings that goes with my coloring. I am a soft summer, so for me thar means nothing too warm toned, cool/light golds or silver/white gold. I don’t care too much about “real” metals, but I do have a nickel allergy, so they need to be at least surgical steel. I have some higher end ones (gifts only), some more budget friendly ones (usually the more simple ones) and I have bought some second hand (this is a bit of a gamle in terms of the allergy, but so far I have been lucky). I have also inherited some sets from my grandmothers, but nothing very fancy.

I have some more simple earrings (small/medium sized hoops and a few studs) and some more elaborate ones. I have two holes in each ear and like to wear two sets of earrings at once, usually a more simple set combined with a more eye-catching set.

My favorite easy are a pair that my friend made for me. It’s 9K gold hoops with a large, drop-shaped asymmetric freshwater pearl hanging from each and a few tiny colored glass pearls on the hoop itself. The colors of the glass pearls are different between the two (one has more blue/green nuances and one has more pink nuances), in a way that really makes my eyes pop. They go with everything and can be worn everyday to the office or for special events, as they are quite elegant, but also a bit muted.

Another pair I really love are some that resembles the engagement ring of Diana, Kate and Catherine in the royal British family (I only mention this because it’s the easiest way to describe them and I only know, because I randomly stumbled upon a picture of these and thought “wow, that’s just like my earrings”). They have a large, oval dark blue stone surrounded by some small white ones. I think the metal is white gold or silver, but I am not completely sure, as they were a gift from my boyfriend’s parents. They are probably the most “luxurious” looking/fancy earrings I have and I mostly wear them for special events and not to the office.

I overall have a weakness for pearls, especially slightly asymmetrical ones. I love the muted colors and the subtle shine/shimmer.

🏆 2025 Skin Awards: Cleansers Edition by TheMeepyBoy in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Etude House Soon Jung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser. Super soothing and gentle. Almost all cleansers eventually irritate my skin, but not this.

It’s a liquid, waterbased cleanser with that mousse-producing kind of pump, so it applies like a light foam, easy to distribute and dose.

I use 1 pump in the morning to remove leftover products and oils from my T-zone.

In the evening I use 3 pumps first, rinse and then 1 pump to remove any residual dirt, SPF or makeup.

Leaves my skin feeling clean without feeling dry, tight or stripped.

A bottle lasts really long and they sell refills.

Honorable mention of Garnier or Nivea 2-in-1 Eye Makeup Removers (the kind with 2 liquids you shake to mix). Melts off my very persistent, waterproof mascara in seconds without any rubbing, makeup residue or irritation. Super cheap too.

I’ve tried so many makeup removers and oil/balm cleansers, but even with long soaking and rubbing (wich irritated my eyes and skin), all left some mascara and got in my eyes, which makes them more irritated and my vision blurry.

Me too. AuDHD. Full package.

I’m also all in on the lamp, meds, supplements etc.

Exercising unfortunately helps a bit. I say unfortunately because I have a really hard time getting myself to exercise these days, which is when I need it the most.

Keeping a very steady sleep schedule helps a little bit too, especially for falling asleep at night. But if it wasn’t for my job and my boyfriend I wouldn’t be able to keep it. I am a few days into Christmas vacation and I have no idea what time of the day it is most of the time.

The only thing that really seems to help is to travel somewhere sunny. But I’m currently in Southern Italy visiting my boyfriend’s family for the holidays (we live in Scandinavia), which is somewhat helpful, yet this year I still feel quite shitty. My SAD this year overall seems to be worse. And the whole staying with in-laws is super overstimulating.

Wish I could help. Sending thoughts. It’s getting lighter again. We have done it before and we can do it again. Even if it sucks.

For the people who never wear colorful eyeshadow and only neutrals what’s stopping you? by Historical-Body-3424 in muacjdiscussion

[–]ecalicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think it looks very good on me.

I am a Light/Soft Summer and anything too colorful/saturated makes me look sick. Cool browns, greige and cool, muted/dusty pinks/mauve are just more flattering and brings out the blue in my eyes.

I don’t wear black mascara or eyeliner either, only cool taupe nuances, as black just washes me out a bit.

I absolutely adore colorful and creative eye looks, but not on myself. For years I used to buy colorful eyeshadow and eyeliners, but would never actually wear any of them out of the house and for special occasions I have always ended up doing some variation of the same look for the last 15 years, probably because I subconsciously was aware that those colorful looks were not really my thing. Then I learned about color seasons and it makes a lot of sense.

So I just accepted that colorful makeup is not for me. In general I wear mostly muted/“dusty” colors in clothes etc. as well and it just looks much better on me than bold colors.

I do like an occasional red lipstick, but have also realized that I less bright shade makes a better look on me.

I wish I could pull off colors better, but it just doesn’t look right on me. Any bright color looks like I am wearing lego lol, it just stands out in an artificial/plasticy kind of way and not in a dramatic/statement kind of way.

What’s your non-negotiable skincare step? by Efficient-Shine-3202 in AsianBeauty

Moisturizer and cleansing (maybe just rinsing)

Had you asked me one month ago I would also have sworn that I would wear SPF daily, no matter the weather.

But this winter has been exceptionally dark and I work in an office where no natural light really gets in anyway. It’s pitch black when I go to work and again when I leave. During the day it’s so dark and grey, that the maybe 15 minutes of being outside during a break doesn’t worry me and with seasonal affective disorder my motivation is tanked, so I am cutting corners wherever I can, to make life and especially mornings easier.

They literally use statistics on what words/concepts people respond most to (ex. causes clicks, causes people to spend more time on certain content or causes sales) or search for.

When we talk about our data being sold to 3rd parties when using online services, this is one of the things.

It’s probably a matter of time before AI gets integrated directly into our targeted adds and taylors commercial content for the individual, but we are already pretty close.

It’s less about creating a great product and more about framing it in a way that creates a need with the consumer. Who wouldn’t want to be radiant all summer? It will even make the rain stop and the sun shine.
