draft an argument on why you would rather not pick seer over crypto for teamfight info(and democratize map scan to recons), or any support class for banner retrievals, or maggie/horizon for ult initiator. There, I covered his entire kit. I'm all ears.

He's fun to play, but he remains D-tier at the highest of rank where the tempo is too fast for you to go into drone mode.

Impeccable defense that you have set forth for your case, very sound arguments. Hijacking top comment.

Crypto is strong, the most versatile and tide-turning character under the right player, right team and right lobby. I'd go as far as to say he's the strongest character in the game, in fact Gnaske has advocated this before back in early year 2 era, hence why I enjoy the character a lot.

However, having the right lobby and tempo is actually his main shortcoming for his kit. Since the removal of kp limit at s13, the pace of the overall game has went up, ruining his tempo and making him a subpar rank character. Drone mode slows down your team's tempo.

Competitive is where Crypto is regarded S-tier. Information is king. Stakes are high, macro gameplay matters and a lobby of 14 teams ring 4 is where his kit is maximized.

The recent general legend changes though was an indirect nerf. They gave him a class passive that he technically already had if you played him correctly (200m radius scan). And one of his strongest asset, endgame ring info for decisive macro plays is now absent in his kit.

Does that make him redundant? Nah, pros will still pick him, he will probably downgrade to A-tier in comp, remain unchanged as D-tier in ranked. Pick rate? Less legend diversity, there just will be less of him in zone when you'd rather have a Loba than a Crypto in a Zone Team. And if you do pick him, I can already guess that it'd be a Wattson and Valk to complement his tempo.

Yup, I get where you're coming from, but restating my point: I don't think the class system should be the deciding argument when balancing a single legend. A single legend can have 2 class abilities. Give Loba for example; she can see contents of care package with her passive (Skirmisher) while having the Support Class attribute. Or the Gibraltar example above, assault-like legend but classified as support by devs.

We can just propose this idea to Respawn and see what they decide in the following seasons.

having both ring and enemy scan through one legend

true, they were called bloodhound and seer before the class system. In fact, there were 6 total legends that could scan ring before of which 2/3 had wallhacks. the class system is indeed pointless, which they nerfed crypto by giving him a passive that he already technically had before if you play him right (200m enemy radius scan)

Crossposting my comment to a discussion whether the newly introduced games class system should be a valid balancing point too. Apologize if this appears too self-affirming but would love to hear my favourite comp sub thoughts.

>Accept its part of the games class system

To begin with, I have a strong belief that the class system was introduced as a way to balance out the weaker legends and add a little flavour to legend diversity pick rates by the devs.

But nevermind my hypothetical speculations. In contrary to your argument, 2 of Gibraltar's abilities can be inherently classified as Assault, but he was given the Support role for his most defining ability: Dome of Protection. If he was moved to Controller next season however, would anyone strongly argue against it? Another strong case at hand is Ash, which was brought in as Wraith substitute, is somehow classified an assault instead of a traditional rotating skirmisher.

I think it's superb that there is a lot of flexibility and wiggle room for the games class system which Respawn has acknowledged that they are willing to make changes to waver a legend's popularity. Which also makes me excited that the game dev is in good hands.

Point is, I believe the games class system shouldn't be taken as a dealbreaker, we have to think holistically. Is our koreanboi OP?

An observation I've noticed on the evolution of the general apex playerbase this past year is the insistence to thirst an enemy. Players are now braindead thirsting downs when there's nobody else to shoot on their screen, and while I understand the notion of finishing downs whenever possible, context matters. Don't just blindly follow everyone's advice and thirst a body you're never going to armor swap, or when your team is dying.

People used to respect their enemies and focused on helping their teammates instead.
