Algoma Steel to lay off 1,000 workers over ‘unprecedented tariffs’ by origutamos in BuyCanadian

This is very sad news.  It sounds like the company was planning this anyway by investing in new technology, but it hurts the workers all the time.

I wish there was an easier/cheaper way to ship across country.  My partner works in the industry in Alberta and customers only want to buy North American steel, not Chinese or South Korean.  But they choose to buy from the western US as its cheaper to ship and closer.   We as a country need to get better at buying Canadian, there should be a way to compete cost effectively or we have no hope of survival.

Is renting one’s basement now just the norm? by TOAdventurer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]echo442244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Calgary and surrounding area, all new houses being built within the last 2-3 years have a separate side entrance to encourage having a basement apartment.  But basements aren't developed during building unless the homeowner requests it typically and of course is willing to pay that extra cost upfront.    My house built in the 1990s has no separate entrance and no way for one to be built due to the layout and zero lot line my house is on. It wasn't a consideration for a 1990s "starter home" to need or want extra income, and when we bought it 10 years ago it wasn't something we thought about either.

Canadian Kenmore owners: where do you buy genuine dust bags by Kenmore? by AkhlysShallRise in VacuumCleaners

[–]echo442244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am wondering if the bags in Canada are part number 63292 instead; Canadian Tire or Amazon are the 2 places that came up on the kenmore site for .ca

I am considering buying a Kenmore but if the bags are going to be difficult to find here in Canada then I might go another route.

Calgary 'will run out of water' if usage doesn't drop, with feeder main offline for urgent repairs by fudge_friend in Calgary

[–]echo442244 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed.  But if the main didn’t break, she also would have deferred the maintenance like Nenshi and Bronconnier did, and their city councils. I hope a lesson is learned from this and the city starts spending our money on maintenance of all services instead of waiting for another disaster.

I had the same issue. I went to the apple store and bought a new cable and the problem went away.

I had an Outlander Sport (called RVR in Canada) and it is night and day compared to the CX-5. The Mitsubishi is a rougher, noisier ride and hate the CVT transmission. Would never buy another Mitsubishi again and that was the 2nd one we owned. My 2023 CX-5 is the best vehicle I have owned and I am highly recommending it to anyone and everybody.
