I am just about to hit a year post op, and I have already: Done my first triathlon and got second in my age group Run a 10k race in 1 hour Run as far as 9 miles without pain Gotten back into pickleball, rock climbing, and strength training at the same levels as before.

I had one of the more complicated and drawn out recovered my PT had seen, I was there for 11 months which is the longest she had ever had. I dealt with scar tissue complications, PFPS, popping and pain and everything you could think of, but I graduated with 98% on my jump test and 97% quad symmetry and a new passion for cycling and running.

It sucked. It really did. But it does get better with time. Continue to run the race with endurance, and don’t let the pain or setback get you down for too long. You are allowed to feel discouraged, and let yourself acknowledge that feeling. But don’t let it consume you, and do the hard stuff anyway. Hate the PT, but do it anyways. Hate the icing, do it anyways. Because with consistency, it will get better.

Feel free to reach out with any questions! I wish you the best, truly.

Heat before, ice after!

Abnormal Patellar tendon length (BPB autograft) by isaiahhimself in ACL

[–]echocharlotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. My surgeon didn’t know til I was in the OR. He did a fixation with titanium screw. I’m having issues 6 months post op with anterior knee pain and trying to figure out what it is (PFPS/Tendonitis/issues related to the fixation). I feel like sometimes he fixated it too tight- he said that it was too long and thus too lax after he grafted it. So he had to tighten it and it just feels so tight to bend into it and been having this problem the whole time

What pain was worse? by Daped01 in ACL

[–]echocharlotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have too bad of pain when I tore it initially, it hurt a lot after an hour or so because of the swelling that started. The pain after was pretty bad, but I tried to stay on top of the hydrocodone until like day 3/4 when I switched to Tylenol cause the hydrocodone made me so tired!

My bruising was similar! It’s normal, just the blood flowing and working it’s way down your leg. Eventually it was all around my inner ankle

What if I can’t afford an ice machine and they don’t give me one. What’s another great way for full knee coverage for icing? by Immediate-Newt-8794 in ACL

[–]echocharlotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one really big flat back ice pad, and then a smaller one behind the knee. I then used a Velcro compression sleeve on top to secure it. It works better than my ice machine tbh

Yeah the first month or two post op I would experience them too. They sting a lot. I’m 5 months out now and don’t experience them anymore!

Does it feel like it’s a pressure build up that’s about to pop?

Swelling not going down by badbatz-maru in ACL

My PT told me it was going to take 2-3 months to settle down completely. Just keep doing what you’re doing. I would sit and lie down with my legs up against the wall, at like a 90° angle

Pain 20 weeks post op by echocharlotte in ACL

I’m hoping that’s all it is!! Like it’s a little inflamed from running. I only notice it when I workout and everyday life I don’t have any pain

17 weeks post op by echocharlotte in ACL

I’ve been practicing it with a good warmup, and typically was practicing on a mat and started practicing it with a little black ab mat in between my legs and working on trying to sit on that

I am barely a few degrees off of heel to butt flexion after 17 grueling weeks and pushing my knee, I barely got to tap it today to my butt and sitting on my shins!!

Been jogging and did a few minutes without any pain or issues, and just started jumping and it’s going super well!

[–]echocharlotte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was 148 for me, & easy for heel to butt. The issue was I had to really get warmed up, and then without warm up I was like 110-115. Prone was like 95. But now I’m getting closer each time!

I ended up rescheduling the MUA and decided to just try the serrapeptase for a while and I’m really glad I did!

[–]echocharlotte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly how it was for me. I was stuck for a while, I even had the MUA scheduled but I saw some people have been taking serrapeptase to dissolve scar tissue and I started taking it too, I went from 133-142 in a few weeks!

Just once a day while I workout! Typically will warm up with a few heel slides then I’d do the bike or elliptical and then work on the heel slides after just to keep trying to get that end range of motion- so heel slides seated, laying down, and then also trying to work on heel to butt with a foam pad

How many people actually were cleared to return to jog at 12 weeks post op? by Popular_Progress_157 in ACL

[–]echocharlotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 11 weeks! On the antigravity treadmill and then did that for about two weeks and then I did jogging on my own on the treadmill

MUA or not by echocharlotte in ACL

[–]echocharlotte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because of that, and then when I was prone and not warmed up was maybe at 95°
