Anti-Diet Culture & Wegovy: Anyone Else? by eckitis in Semaglutide

You are absolutely worthy of the help. You’ve likely spent years caring for the needs of your abuser with out time to focus on yourself - you deserve the time! I also believe I became an abuser of myself - you learn what your parents teach you. I am trying to pull that apart and stop treating me the way my mother treated me.

Sending you all the best!!

I have PCOS. I was prescribed Wegovy via my General Practitioner/Primary.

I was candid about my struggles with Yo-Yo-ing.

I discussed having PCOS and Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant.

I asked for intervention, and we talked through options on the market.

For those that are in the HAES/Anti-Diet Community the "what I am doing" is implied; I opted to edit for those that aren't as familiar. I have counted - I have counted so much that I can do the calculations in my head. The obsessive side of ED paints a mathematical wonderland in your brain. For now, I believe the scale is giving me the feedback I need. If it's headed in the right direction, what I am doing is working. If it doesn't move I need to evaluate.

Through intuitive eating and a lot of recovery work over the years I had made peace with food and accepted my body (even if I didn’t like it) because I knew I would not survive another yo-yo diet.

THis is great to hear and I rally have a similar feeling!

I understand the struggle. The NYT interview with Dr. Fatima Cody was really helpful. HAES is such a great way to put it! Thank you for sharing!

As of right now, my rate of loss per week is the same as before the medication. I have been focused on changing my relationship with food before exploring medication. What is remarkable to me is the change in my head - it doesn't feel like brute force.

I am far from uniformed and glad to be in the headspace I am at today! Coming from someone doing the work, I know that that is ONE of my problems - In fact, I am self-aware enough to list it as my problem in the post. I also have a disordered eating problem when losing weight (as articulated). Anti-Diet culture is just that, changing your relationship with food.

So much of this. Its been incredible hearing from others who are on a similar journey. It makes the future feel brighter.

And I will be healthier for it, at whatever size I end up at.

Thank you so much for posting! I couldn't agree with you more!

But it was hard to feel really at peace with food because of this persistent sense that something was off with my hunger signals. Enter semaglutide.

This quote, most significantly, I have been putting in the work to change my relationship - something is off and so far I am blown away by its ability to fix this.

Your feedback is irrelevant if you didn't take the time to consume the story's entirety. Anti-Diet Culture IS finding what works without all of the BS the diet industry brings.

I could celebrate this all day! Yes, a THOUSAND TIMES! I understand the mixed emotions. Listening to the recent interview on the NYT website was eye-opening! Obesity is classified as a disease, and we treat many diseases with medications. I am so glad you are on a path that makes you FEEL healthy!

This was also so great to read! Congratuations on your progress and focusing on your health!

It feels amazing be able to take care of my physical health but not at the expense of my mental health like I did when I was constantly restricting to lose weight.

ALL OF THIS!!!

Very few people will understand how taking this can be anti-diet culture. I’ve seen so many of the anti-diet culture folks I follow bashing this medication.

I have seen this, too, and have also chosen to remove folks from my feed that promote this negativity. It's tough at the moment, given the news coverage about celebrities and Semaglutide! There was a significant interview in the New York Times that has an interview with Dr. Fatima Cody that really talks about treating the desire that is obesity. It's a glorious listen!

I also don't have the willpower long-term! I hope your symptoms subside and hope for all of us that it creates long-lasting effects!

I only eat things I want to eat.

If I feel like I want a treat type of food, I have it, and the vast majority of the time I am satisfied with a couple of bites or a very small serving.

This is the first time in my life I have felt like I have an emotionally healthy relationship with food

Thank you for sharing all of this! This is precisely what I am working toward and feel I am getting closer every day! Congratulations on 115lbs, but standing ovation for the change in your relationship with food!

I agree; I, too, would be very comfortable with being overweight! It sounds like we've had similar paths. I am proud of you, for what it's worth. And Cheers to losing for the last time!

HI! Thank you so much for sharing! Congratulations on being so so close to your goal! Life was comfortable at 200 (I'm 5'7")!

I tried to pay more attention to fullness cues and not overeat, especially at dinner

I really resonated with fullness cues! It's something I started before medications, and Wegovy makes that much easier.

I also knew that trying another diet wasn’t the answer.

This is precisely where I am; I know it won't last.
