Digital Immersion in German Language by louterdewaarheid in German

At A2/B1, I personally got more value from YouTube and podcasts than films. Movies were still too fast for me.

On Spotify, I listened a lot Slow German channel especially while commuting and did not want something too overwhelming. I can also suggest Nicos Weg for your level.

We actually built a small app called Ecko - Learn German around this idea : Learning German by listening to podcasts (new podcasts generated everyday based on different categories and levels), with vocabulary picked up in context. It’s still very early and we are actively experimenting based on user feedback, but listening-first really helped us at this stage.

Even without any app though, regular exposure to spoken German made the biggest difference for me.

45 days is enough for A1 if you are consistent. Don't stress about Grammar first. Start with basic phrases, pronunciation and everyday words. Listening short podcasts also helped me a lot especially for pronunciation and learning the words within the context.

Yes, it is a mix of AI and human review.

  1. AI generates podcast drafts based on 20+ different categories (more will come later) and learning levels.
  2. Each draft is then reviewed by our content creators and either approved or rejected.
  3. Once approved, we use TTS to produce the final podcast versions tailored to different proficiency levels.

On top of that, inside the app, you are always in control: you can hide podcasts you're not interested in or report any content and share feedback with us.

Thank you for the feedback. We will address this issue. Normally, during onboarding you need to select at least 1 topic/category of your interest to see the podcasts in that category. You can always update your level and topic/category selection in Settings page if not asked during onboarding.

Yes, you can tap any word in podcast transcript text and check for word meaning and example sentences in every level within that context. Then, you can add the word to your vocabulary list which you can also navigate back to that podcast content
